This is why we can't have nice things.

Isn't it free with purchase of their new game in retail copies anyways? Should also be backwards comparable as well.

Either way, Children of the Elder God was one of the best battles I've ever been hyped up to in a video game. No video of it will ever do it justice. Here's the song though

Shit OP thanks I should buy Alan Wake on PC. Is America Nightmare also going off the market?

That's what you get for using licensed music instead of making a OST.

American Nightmare is good too, FYI.

they had an ost too it was pretty dope they just supplemented it with licensed music. Poets of the fall were a great choice for the game.

>>
This is why we need crackers
Because all games eventually die and can't be sold so they're abandon-ware

And what happens is after a decade a copy will cost like 200 bucks which is insane

Dunevo is good to secure those early sales, but we need crackers to SAVE GAMES

Sucks about Alan Wake, the story was awful but it was interesting the first time

Gameplay is simplistic and gets repetitive very quickly, but still worth it for the story, atmosphere and presentation.

so?

I've had it in my library for years. I also have it from that humble bundle where it came with like 30 hours of documentary shit and all sorts of concept art, OSTs, and planning info.

Alan wake is not the kind of game that's selling anymore, this doesn't even matter.

>>376750890
They really built the songs into the game, so it's kinda difficult. Even the plot/narrative has the lyrics to one song function as a sort of prophecy that tell characters where to go if I remember correctly. Also one of the best parts of the game is built around a song too.

The profit the game will do is mostly done, it won't sell much more. So it's easier to just let it go, keeping it intact and unbutchered. From this 90%off sale they might just get almost as much if not more profit than they would from removing the songs and keeping it on sale.
>>
>>376752763
you literally can't play mighty quest for epic loot. Download the launchers but you won't be able to get past the title screen, if it even connects to a server to download the game anymore. Same for darkspore. why you lyin, bruv?

>>
How many games were lost because of this?
>>
>>376752919
that's always been an issue. If the company doesn't want to renew the IP or the copyrights or trademarks on the game, it's gone.

that's what happened to the original prey. You can't get it anymore anywhere, besides pirating it, obviously. And that disappeared after barely a year and a half.

the 2008 turok game is a similar story, never had digital releases either, and they stopped selling it 4 months after launch, and shut down the multiplayer servers.

Why do people care now?
>>
>>376751158
Constantly at odds with itself; presentation leads you into believing this is a desperate struggle but the bounty ammo and area clearing flares makes it a cake walk. Very unscary. Has the Remedy touches around the periphery---including a kick ass Twilight Zone knock off show present as FMV in-game---but doesn't hold a flashlight to more atmospheric outings such as Max Payne 1 and/or 2.

American Nightmare's story was painfully shallow. You actually repeat the same 3 maps 3 times, events slightly different as Alan tries to figure out how to beat Mr. Scratch and get the Good End. Sam Wake didn't have anything to do with writing the scenario. I guess it was aimed at those 2 guys and the M$ corporate suits who apparently thought Alan Wake shooting was good enough to justify an arcade mode/Alan Wake didn't have enough SHOOTAN since arcade mode was the big selling point I guess.

i bet same shit will happen to Quantum Break, Remedy probably made stupid contracts for their youtube game too.

Steam version will be on sale for 90% off starting tomorrow, Xbox version isn't getting a sale because M$ sucks dick.
Xbox version has both DLCs for free and the game is backwards compatible on Xbone though.

I'm not saying you shouldn't be able to sell your art, but IP is bullshit and if the only way you can support yourself as an artist is through lawsuits and royalties you don't deserve to live.

What the fuck is wrong with the game industry and being so retarded/jewish.

Does a movie stop going for sale when a 20 year old movie with """""licensed"""""" music expires?

If movies can do it, what jewish rule or law or other legalese bullshit is being implemented into vidya games but not movies?

This is why we should have killed all the jews long ago.

BTW, this isn't the first game to have this happen. Happens a lot. Many games are no longer available on Steam SIMPLY cuz of this stuff kike bullshit about music licenses. Don't forget GTA even though it was """fixed""" still pulled the original music even if you bought the game already.

Artistic merit, no. However, no single person could make something like a pixar movie by themselves. The amount of man hours for the quality pixar aims for is unteneable for a single person. This allows group collaboration that wouldn't be possible as anything other than a 9 to 5.

How could you make money off of art without IP? Literally anytime you showed someone (including the client) your finished product, they could just use it, because you don't have any rights to it. Without IP laws I could literally go get a copy of the newest hit movie on Blu-ray, copy it, and sell it for 2 bucks, en masse.
>>
Also happened to Hitman Contracts
>>
So there's a chance it'll be re-added it seems if they're able to straighten it out. That Castle of Illusion remake got pulled recently but then added back a few months later so there's still hope.

That being said Remedy have pretty much given up on the license so there'll likely not be a sequel any time soon anyway.

And this is some kind of problem to you? IP is just artificial scarcity, you are being wildly overcharged for products that cost virtually nothing to reproduce and the only reason it "works" is because the state literally throws people in prison for doing what you described.

Yes, artificial scarcity is how such products continue to be made.

Your view is so small-minded and self-centered that it's not even worth discussing it with you.
>>
>>376767183
Do you not understand that the reproduction costs aren't what you're paying for? You're paying for the initial time spent prototyping, refining, rendering, etc by skilled artists. If you only charged the literal fractions of pennies it would cost, then no one could do it as a job, and you wouldn't get anything besides hobby level shit.

>Do you seriously think anyone besides maybe super passionate indie devs would make games without IP laws?
You know art existed long, long before IP laws existed right?

>BUT HOW WILL THE HUMBLE POET EARN HIS KEEP IF ANY SIMPLE SCRIBE CAN COPY HIS VERSES WITH QUILL AND INK AND DISTRIBUTE THEM AT HIS LEISURE? IT WILL BE UTTER CHAOS!
>>
>>376769493
Firstly, you realize that most visual art was nigh impossible to copy in the olden days, because it basically required you to be as good an artist anyway?

Second, stuff like poetry in the middle ages had a wildly different audience considering the literacy rate. Copying books was infact, a very labour intensive task. Hence why a lot of monastaries copied the bible and other religious texts for preservation.

Third, I said that hobbists will always exist, but there is a world of difference in the amount of man hours it takes to make a movie (acting, directing, set building, choreography, composing the music etc)/video game (3d modelling, balancing the game, art, the insane amount of programming) and something like a novel or poem. While those still of course take great artistic effort, it's only one creative discipline needed so it's not unheard of for 1 person to make something that stands up to huge company funded works. An indie dev/director simply cannot create a production with as much polish as a studio backed work.

Whether you like action movies or not, do you really think an indie filmmaker can make the kind of set pieces the marvel or Micheal Bay movies use?

Do you really think an indie dev can get the graphical fidelity of something like crysis (on release)?

If you are really so short sighted you cannot even BEGIN to see where I'm coming from, you are either really underage, or just plain deluded.

Marvel and Michael Bay are fucking horrible, I don't want that shit to be produced.
>Do you really think an indie dev can get the graphical fidelity of something like crysis (on release)?
I don't care about "muh graphics" I want good games, and as it happens, many of the best games are totally fucking free, like Cave Story and Dwarf Fortress.

Money, if anything, makes art worse. I do not like big-budget Hollywood productions, I don't like most big-budget AAA games, many of the things I like were made on a small or non-existent budget.

In my own self interest, IP law does nothing, and is only a complete hindrance. I know the pros and cons and I think it would be better to abolish it.
>>
>>376771279
>I don't like thing
Good for you. Lots of people obviously do. That's also discounting genres that wouldn't even exist in an indie only atmosphere. How many indie MMOs do you know that aren't flaming pieces of shit?

Just because you personally don't like it isn't a good reason to abolish a series of laws that basically keeps the vast majority of artists employable

Alan Wake Sunset Sale -90% from May 13th to 15th
MAY 12 - LAURIRMD
If you have not yet played Time Magazine’s 2010 Game of the Year, now is your final chance. Remedy’s Alan Wake is going offline from stores. This is due to the expiration of music license agreements for the game. Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is not affected.

For 48 hours, you can buy Alan Wake including DLCs and Alan Wake’s American Nightmare at a 90% discount on Steam.

If you already own Alan Wake – like the majority of the gaming population out there – you have nothing to worry about. The game will stay in your library and continue to work for you.

Because the music industry (RIAA) consists of ancient money grubbing vampires that will fight you tooth and nail every step of the way when it comes to music rights. They want their money and they want it perpetuity. The doesn't just happen to games, TV series are affected as well. WKRP in Cincinnati will never see the light of day again unedited because of the sheer amount of licensed music they used. Neither will the Wonder Years or Northern Exposure. There are plenty of other shows that have had their music stripped just so they be distributed again. It's ridiculous and RIAA needs to be destroyed.
