is this true?
I wouldn't know, I'm still waiting for my Switch version to come out.

Yes
People criticized it for being what they promised.
It's a game made for those that like the genre, primarily Rare's games on the n64.
I did enjoy it a lot and now I'm on my 2nd playthrough.
>faggots realizing that the brain dead mass collectathon genre died for a reason
Banjo runs off nostalgia and charm.
Guess what happens when you remove both?
"Dated" gameplay? What the fuck does that even mean? How the fuck can gameplay possibly be "dated"?
>said things /v/ didnt like
It didn't revive the genre.
It feels like one of those forgettable 3D "platformers" you'd see during sixth gen.

The problem isn't that the classic Banjo game play is bad, it's just YL does a poor job at imitating the Banjo gameplay. Every level has a pagie gotten by...
>a lame boss fight
>a janky mine cart level
>one of those terrible rextro 64 games (X2)
>the 5 ghosts
>the 200 quills
So before entering a new leve, I know that 6 pagies will be an absolute chore to collect. The rest are found through asinine tasks like humping through hoops. It's just so stale and predictible. There's no sense of adventure like in Banjo.
People were happy it was going to give an old genre a new chance, what I don't think people expected was for them to be so single-mindedly devoted to recreating the experience of those old genre games that they would recreate tedious, time consuming, or otherwise unliked mechanics.
Everyone remembers exploring the maps filled with fun characters and interesting collectables, everyone forgets doing the same timed gay ass maze or race course 5000 times in a row where the most difficult part was the shitty controls and bad camera.
And in here lies the problem. If people really wanted to play banjo kazooie again, they would play banjo kazooie again, so if you just make the same game over a decade later you're an idiot, even if that's what the fans say they want. Fans rarely actually know what they want. In this case, the developers did not make a spiritual successor, or a new imagining of an old genre, they made this game as if it was really 10 years ago, with absolutely no thought for the fact that certain gameplay elements are considered fucking boring now.
