Man I played on and off for a year or more and I NEVER figured out how to git robust at combat since most fights were me vs someone armed to the teeth who often opened the fight by sneaking up and stunning me.

Guess it didn't help that I don't have the asshole nature needed to enjoy this game to the fullest as I usually just stuck to my job (like Engineer) and ended up being bored for 30+ minutes until the station went from pristine to completely irreparable in about 2 minutes.

what's it like?

Downside to this game, besides the horrible engine, is that it ALWAYS devolves into drama and the worst fucking admins imaginable. You'll get banned a lot when starting because while they tell you to read the wiki half the shit doesn't even matter and since there's no centralized area to learn the game you're fucked. It doesn't help that a lot of shit is left up to the discretion of the admin and while one will say one thing another will ban you the next day. Silicons are the prime example for this. Want to see just how terrible the admins and coders are? Look at the github or the past few generals. Lots of potential but not much else. If you do decide to play just quit the moment you stop having fun learning and start playing to do projects because that's when you'll start getting jaded.

Why is this so hard? I mean the things I've listed are not unique to me? Majority of SS13 playerbase seems to want exactly this.
No stress rp if you want to without much autism, no furbait shit, some hardcore elements so that you can't just walk in space and good ammount of features original or stolen so that game doesn't get boring.

I swear, if I could code in Byond I would open a new server, I even have the money to keep it up.

I loved this game. I went back to goonstation like in 2015 to replay it but it just wasn't the same. Poo was gone, and there was more meta shittery going on than before.

Okay first step, join a game as "assistant" class (under job preferences) and figure out the controls. Try to open the box in your backpack and put on the breath mask and oxygen tank.

Then try walking around the base and exploring. Open closets and boxes to see what's inside, try doors, watch other people work. Nobody ever expects assistants to do anything useful so there is literally zero expectations. You CAN'T fuck up.

After that you can try just enabling some easy jobs. Bookmark the spacestation13 wiki and look up job guides.

Frankly, if you even ATTEMPT to do your job, even if you suck ass at it, you are already doing more than most people. Most people just fuck off and don't do their job, because half the people are antagonists and the other half are cutns

I stopped going to /vg/ after I copped a long jobban from all engineering jobs when I accidentally fucked up starting the singulo. Came clean, admitted I made a mistake, got the ban anyway. And the best part was that I wasn't even an engineer, I was starting the engine because all the engineers fucked off without doing so and I was the only one willing to do it.

That plus the powergaming. Jesus fuck the powergaming. I saw a guy on there set up a deathtrap contest thing with prizes as an antag, and everyone he trapped in it suicided rather than try to solve it.

Here is all that you need to know
Most of the UI is like usual SS13 UI, the buttons near the hands "Jump" "Steal" etc. are special actions that can be performed with middle mouse button.
The button that says "Feint" is a style button, if you click it you can choose your combat style. You activate that combat style by clicking the button left to it, it should glow red when activated.

2h button makes you grab the item you are holding with both hands, blind makes you swing blindly etc. try it out

The lowest right thing with dots is your stamina bar, you can recover stamina by resting or using willpower.

The ugly body doll is the same as usual choosing the location thing, but stylized. Big square button with an Eye on it makes you lock on to one direction when moving, useful for combat so you don't turn your back on the enemy.


Rest is the same as usual SS13, really.
