It's not only fun, but they're also relatively cheap and easy to make, meaning the games can be much longer than your average game. Some of the greatest video games ever made are Turn-based RPG's, they provide a level of investment and immersion almost no other genre can provide.

I've loved SMT, Pokemon and DQM, but I think this game has my favourite monster collecting mechanic. Pretty much every monster (if digivolved to end-game level) is viable and digivolving up and down is mostly really uncluttered and fun.
Except for ABI. Holy fuck, I understand why they had to include it as a mechanic to prevent you from getting top tier Digimon too easily, but fucking hell. They could've implemented it in a less irritating grind-based way. Yes I know you can mitigate it with PlatinumSukamon, but even so, it's really annoying.
