Helicopters barely change the game. At best they're overpowered and un-fun to play against, at worst they just add crashing noises every 90 seconds.
Poor optimization and disgusting visuals at lower settings. Some maps look really bad and the crappy Unreal 3 AA is partly to blame.
Barebones customization. The number of options is surprisingly low, I don't see them improving this much before launch. Obvious added to milk some extra money from the people who care about this kind of thing.
Limited map pool. Made worse by splitting them between two separate game-modes.

They just have no idea what to do with the game beyond infantry combat. I won't be surprised if 6 months after release most servers just stuck to Territories and ignore the new game-mode.

If you enjoyed RO2/RS1 you'll probably enjoy this since it's the same core game once again, especially if you are into of the setting. If you were hoping for worthwhile changes to the forumla then you'll probably be at least a little bit disappointed.

I'd put Squad a bit above Red Orchestra in terms of sim style since there's much more communication and coordination required in Squad. The overall pacing is very different as well, in a sense, it appeals to a different demographic than RO/RO2/RS2.

You're a fuckwit. UE3 is great. It has been around for ages. It's a tried tool that is easy to use. Games on it are also easy to port. The combination of its performance and available material is second only to Id tech "X".

The reason trip used ue3 and not 4. Is because they won the licence up to unreal 3. (Back during mod days) If they'd chosen 4. That would include licensing fees. Besides ue4 is non charred territory. Good luck being the pioneer.

It's a bit more in the sim category, most players use mics, engagement ranges are longer than in Red Orchestra and more compareable to Arma, calling out targets with compass bearings, backblast can seriously fuck up teammates etc.

I haven't played RS2 since the beta, but I really didn't like it as much as RO2/RS, some of the magic seems to get lost with automatic weapons, maps don't seem to great and the new gamemode seems terrible, shoulda stuck with territory only

It is very useful for spotting targets. If you press W and shift while crouched and in cover the enemy will barely be able to see you but you can see them. You become twice a big target if you are just crouched. Only retards have not figured this out.

The cover system and movement in general has been shit since RO2. In each game I'd often getting stuck, unreasonably slowed or end up standing on top of objects that I didn't intend to walk onto.

Chairs or other low clutter that act as a ramps if you get close and foot high walls that are barely noticeable but need to be vaulted over. The faster movement speed only makes these issues more noticeable.

Choppers are shit for actually killing people. Cobra grenades and rockets have a fairly small blast radius and if you don't have a loach pilot flying around spotting (which is the case 99% of the time) you have to guess where they are. Not to mention you also have to worry about RPGs, DSHKs, and SAM. Being a helicopter pilot isn't particularly fun atm.

I like it, but I have a few complaints.

On some maps they can be, but that's no different than any fps game. Even the fights in RO2/RS1 were typically decided within 30 seconds to a minute of starting. It's a video game, people don't care about throwing their lives away.

I'll agree with you there, that's fucking stupid and needs to be changed. Particularly considering it means fights can hardly take place in the tunnels which I'd argue is a big selling point for their asymmetrical warfare.

I like the marines/army. Playing as a pilot is fun. Avoiding RPG fire and SAMs while delivering a payload of grunts to the frontline while my door gunners go to town on the zipperheads is a blast.

Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm 1 are only good because the dedicated players aren't blithering idiots. Squad Leaders prioritize living, Commanders know when and where to call in support, you can depend on someone covering a corner to actual stay there and cover the corner, etc.

We will unfortunately only get that in 1 - 2 years.

nade launcher: slam gooks holed up in buildings and corners and you can kill tunnels with it. it's very important to get the one with 2 smokes to help team.

Radio op: be with commander if he wants you otherwise use your smoke grenades to cover team and act like a normal grunt.

SL: spawn teammates near to the point but not too near to die easily. If taking a point stay inside a building and hold out as long as possible. Also put down arty marks with your binoculars or signal grenades so your TL can call artillery when needed.
With Arty marks make sure they are either in the back of the point to kill only the enemies and to cut off reinforcements.

Slow down, sprint for a bit to get close to the action then don't touch that button unless you're crossing a SMALL open space or going to the next bit of cover.

A general rule: if the cover is more than 4-5 seconds of full sprint away and you're not 100% sure your team owns that area it's a deathwish.

Move from cover to cover, try to minimize your exposure as well as the amount of time you are exposed. If you see someone near you get shot when he looks around the corner; don't do the same thing.
