Why is RTS dead?
>>
Everyone who used to play them has moved on to GSG because there have been few good RTS's out there.
>>
Because single player RTS games play like complete trash and multiplayer RTS games have become obtuse gookclickers
>>
Lack of innovation in the genre.

Blizzard fucked up sc2 by focusing on making it a good esport and forgot to make it a good game.

Notice how the most popular esports are ones that were never originally intended to be esports? Blizzard's most successful esport was Hearthstone, the ONLY game they recently made with no original intention of having an esports scene for.
>>
Old hardware limitations caused the games to become more strategic due to working around these limitations. Recent RTS is blob on blob combat due to improved pathfinding.

That and kids these days are too retarded for it.
>>
no more good rts's and gamers are overall way more casual, rts require tonnes of hours in order for you to be competitive

ASL season 3 is going on right now. First quarter finals is the 14th korea time
>>

No they havent

They've been casualised. Sc2 is played effectively with 150 apm. Broodwar? Good fucking luck.

Seriously it's people like you that ruined the fucking genre, meanwhile slower and good RTS like warhammer will never be good because their developers are complete imbeciles, hell even the board game wouldn't work if it wasnt for the people that plays them.
>>
why did quake die? same reason.

it's too hard for normies, especially modern normies addicted to ecelebs and team games, they don't want a skill game like BW, streetfighter, or quake

They dumbed down the genre for casual and changed its name to MOBA

So it died.

Fuck you mate, playing as a team is great. CTF best TF.
>>
>>376725119
SC and SC2 are both mechanical gookclickers, I dont care to differentiate just because SC2 is more casual according to you
>>
>>376725339

Maybe it's not the genre for you? ever thought of that? Go play a fucking board game if sc2 is too fast for you grandpa.

>cant sell it on consoles
>takes dedication and discipline to get good , not to mention a brain , so women are instantly out
>hard to balance
>requires servers which means more money
>the biggest IPs are owned by companies filled with incompetent employees
>>
>>376726223
>cant sell it on consoles
how come microsoft keeps doing it then?
>>
>>376725310
yeah but when teamplay becomes the central focus shit is lame

TDM and CTF is super fun but games like overcuck and others are totally built around teams, making them impossible to play 1v1
>>

RTS developers slowly alienated the coalition of consumers that bought RTS games.

1) The custom maps that originated in Blizzard RTS games became their own commercial genre(s), fracturing the alliance of players who bought RTS games for their little shitty submodes.

2) Matchmaking codified RTS around a set of game modes that are too hard for most players, while discouraging anyone from playing those modes on slower speeds or modified maps (BGH, Zero Clutter, etc.).

3) StarCraft II tells everyone that the genre is an all-hands-on-deck drag race and proceeds to alienate every single person that does not play RTS as a one-on-one turbosport.

Combine that with the increasing cost of developing and building RTS games and it's now incredibly difficult to make money off of them.
>>
>>376724757
Because it was shit
>>
>>376726649

Same reason why halo is not a real fps and more of a baby first
>>
>>376724757
Because SC2 and partially WC3 are the only games with remotely interesting single-player, and multiplayer is built as zero-sum game which is design for killing long term popularity and casual involvement.
