There's a reason why Hardin said it wasn't coming to Switch. Atlus USA barely knows how to compile coding for the PS4. The Switch is an absolute mystery to them. Also Sony has thrown money at Sega over the past couple years, so hopefully there is still some influence left.

Persona's one of those games where only the Japanese numbers really matter to the execs, while Western sales are more of a bonus. It's too big of a series now to competely ignore the Western market, though they'll use cost-cutting if sales are poor (such as no dubs).

Granted, Atlus is owned by Sega now, whom are infamous for their constant business fuck-ups.

While I am sure they are not entirely wrong VG can't really be trusted. It's been confirmed they sometime pull out number out of their ass. Also this isn't FF we are talking about. I am sure a million sales is more than enough for Atlus to consider it a success. P5 isn't some almighty high budget game. It uses a bunch of re used assets and techniques to make it look good. For example while the game outputs a complete image the bars around it help keep a steady framerate. Also Atlus used flat colors which helps hide bad CG and keep framerate and resolution stable. If I were to give an estimate of how much the game cost the best I can do is that I highly doubt it it was more than $10m.

P5 is a PS3 game using PS3 assets released in 2017. It's more expensive to make than any Atlus game, but also cheaper than literally any other game released this year.

It also helps that the money they spent on P5's dev tools and assets can get recycled into SMT spinoffs for the next decade (see: Nocturne's demon models showing up in no less than like 6 PS2 games)
