I would say this is the least gimmicky Nintendo console since the gamecube. As the gimmick has no effect on gameplay so it wont result in the games on it being the worst in the series because they tried to shill it's gimmick (looking at you Skyward Sword and Starfox Zero).

The no D-pad thing is annoying because it was only done so that both controllers work when turned sideways like the Wii. Thankfully the pro controller has one and I make enough money that I don't mind paying 80 canuck dollars for a controller.

The price is like $50 too high though, and with scalpers its basically $250 too high anywhere you can actually buy one. As for the nogames, if you're not into Zelda, 3D Mario, etc. There's really no reason to get a Nintendo system.

People loved the gamecube and snes, had a good library of games, great variety, and people still find ways to emulate those old games because that's how good they were.

Then the Wii and the WiiU showed up, people got burned by the insane amount of shovelware, and the lack of good 3rd party stuff and refused to buy another console from them. They kind of made up for that with the 3ds library, and that hacking one gives you access to the snes, gba and nes library.

Crazy thing was that I was out at Best Buy yesterday and saw one. Was so close to getting one until it dawned on me that I had nothing to really look forward to playing on it right now. Already played BoTW on Wii U as well as Mario Kart 8. While Puyo Puyo Tetris looks awesome, I think I'm going to wait until after E3 to even consider getting one. Plus, one of the shittiest things about the Switch right not is that there is no D-pad. I'd love to play side scrollers and virtual console stuff on the go with everything else, but I'll be fucked if I'm going to use the face buttons as some sort of replacement. BotW's probably the best Zelda in years, Mario Kart 8 is awesome, especially on the go, I love Fast RMX, and indie titles like Blaster Master Zero and Kamiko are fun, too.

But holy shit is this thing not worth the money. At least right now. It's got too many hardware problems that could be fixed with a newer model and not enough games to justify the pricetag. Well, from personal experience, I can tell you that it gets really hot if you play it for only a little while. Its battery life is pretty bad, but only if you're playing games like BotW or MK8 undocked. I never got the joycon syncing issue like some people, but undocked, my motion controls always seem to pull to the left, like a car with bad steering. It doesn't happen when it's docked, though, it's weird. And this is probably just me being a slob, but the thing gets really dirty way too easily. Within a week mine had these weird rings around the buttons. Now, I know what you're thinking, "Anon, why do you scarf down junk food like a dumpster while you play vidya, that's how they always get dirty!", but I pinky swear that I don't. Fortunately, it easily cleaned with some rubbing alcohol, but it still happens way too fast. The material's weird or something. I should get one of those covers for it.
