Re: Zero is literally the perfect intro to anime for anyone. It's decent, but if you're not familiar with anime, it's amazing. It eases normalfags into anime-isms while also having enough self awareness to have the main character actually earn his victories. Many normies are turned off by 2D waifus but you'd be hardpressed to find one who doesn't walk away from the show in love with Rem and experiencing weird thoughts about Felt and Felix.

But that's what I mean, there's a bunch of great characters around the MC, but the MC , being the focus, really drags the show down. There are tons of dumb "just talk it out" moments. Some of them are alright, but the fact that his character development comes specifically from his inability to save anyone, the same person even, just doesn't provide enough interesting material to power through to the end.

Would I rather have a show where the Old man is the focus? Yeah Would I rather the main heroine be green hair with the air sword or orange haired princess? Yeah. But the MC we're given is from the C Team and that specifically impacts the show badly, because it's his choices we have to follow.
