Were you a Nintendo kid or a Sega kid?
>>
If you were a Sega kid your parents didn't love you.
Literally the Mega Blocks of consoles.
>>
>>376708532
Only raging casuals think the Genesis was a bad console.
>>

Neither. Console wars didn't exist back then out of marketing

>play my Nintendo
>go to friend next door
>has a Genesis
>have fun playing Sonic 2, Mutant League, Road Rash
>go to other friend down the road
>has SNES
>have fun playing Donkey Kong Country, Link to the Past, Street Fighter 2

>none of us are screeching autists who think any console is better, we just like playing video games
>>
Both actually. But Sonic appealed to me a lot more than Mario did. Thankfully I never took that too far though and it kind of faded out of my mind after the 16 bit generation. Pfew.
>>
>>376708909
>we just like playing video games
Why are you here?
>>
>>376708532
Sega
Nintendo was for poor children with their knock-off chinese SNES
>>
i had a genesis not a snes but i played the shit out of nintendy handhelds.
>>
Everyone I knew had Nintendo including myself so there's your answer. Wasn't until 2002 I got PS2.
>>
>>376708532
It's literally Nintendo vs Sonic, Tails and Knuckles
>>
>>376708532
Mostly a PC kid. But before that I played Dendy, which is a NES knock-off. I barely played Ninty's first party games though.

I was both. My first console was a Master System, then I upgraded to a Megadrive and eventually got an SNES.

There were two games which fucking buried the Megadrive; Starfox and StreetFighter II.

I was a Nintendo kid because of my older brother but loved playing Sonic games on the family PC, like 3&K, R, and 3D Blast. I think if we had owned a Genesis instead of a SNES, I would have been a major Sega kid because I loved playing a lot of Genesis classics once I got older, it had a pretty good classic lineup (though I can't really speak much for the "non-classics").
Sonic 3&K is still one of my favorite games of all time and I played the crap out of it on our PC as a kid, and I've got plenty of nostalgic memories for it; so personally Sega at least has that over Nintendo, but I've always been a believer of the "Nintendo polish" that comes with so many of their games, so to speak, in that I know I'll always have fun playing them and that there will always be a certain quality standard that they meet with the gameplay. I guess if anything, at least for me personally, Nintendo has a much more consistent library of good or great games, while Sega has those few amazing games that stuck with me the most over the years.
>>
Nes to Genesis to N64
>>
>>376708532
First console was an NES, second was a Genesis. During the former I didn't even know what console wars were and during the latter I didn't really care. Looking back, Nintendo was better, but I had some good times with the shonky messes that were the early Sonic games.

When I finally got a console it was a fucking Gamecube while I wanted a PS2 for GTA, I spend my entire childhood being 'that kid', also because I was asthmatic so a loser by default.
>>
>>376709096
>Sega. Nintendo was for poor children.
And how is that an argument? Sega Genesis was the only Sega's successful console during Nintendo - Sega war. And in the end, SNES sold more than Genesis.
>>
A had a Mega Drive and Genesis while all my neighbors had SNESs, so we got the best out of both systems

But Sonic was never interesting to me, neither Mario. I was more of a DK guy.

Man, this is a terrible image. Weird selection of Nintendo characters, too much Mario and missing some good ones like Kirby, and it's missing a lot of great SEGA characters. They're also scaled really fucking weird and Peach's eye is a transparent cube.

Weirdest part is some of the sprites are custom. Samus for instance is her Power Armor, but the ending of Super Metroid's graphics are exclusively Gravity Suit which also has different shoulders.

I was a Nintendo kid who grew up to be a Sega adult.
>>
>>376708532
I have been owning a PC since the late 80's.
Pretty fun stuff doing DOS as a kid, with two fucking bibles with the inputs.
Too bad vydia came to my country in the 90's. Booting up Doom or Hocus Pocus was awesome.
I had a Famicom too, but it overheats in less than half an hour so it was kinda dull.
>>
>>376710601
I forgot what her show is about, i think there was also a robo loli in it.
>>
Both.

I've owned every Nintendo console except the Super Nintendo (emulated it plenty, though), Virtual Boy (not sure if that even counts), and the Switch (not enough games yet).

I only owned the Genesis as a kid, in terms of Sega products. But I bought a Saturn & Dreamcast as an adult due to the libraries being pretty excellent in retrospect. Also, as a third-party developer, Sega has put out great games during 6th & 7th gen. I actually bought an Xbox Hueg for the same reasons I bought the Saturn & Dreamcast. Sega's output on that machine essentially made it a Dreamcast 1.5.
>>

This essentially.
There was no greater joy than going to your friends' houses to play their consoles that you didn't own, and inviting them to your house to play consoles they didn't own. There was no retarded tribalism. We all just enjoyed each other's exclusives.
>>
>>376708532
I played my NES and shitty PC games at the same time. But I loved Game Boy Color and advance so I think im a nintendo kid. Later I got my PS1 and played nothing but that

I liked both, but I've always had more love for the classic Sega franchises. Panzer Dragoon is my favorite game series, and I'd rather play Sonic over Mario any day of the week. Sega used to have so many fantastic franchises like Shining, Streets of Rage, OutRun, Phantasy Star, etc. Most of their franchises are either dead or bastardizations now.

My grandparents had a NES; I'd visit them every week usually, so I'd spent time playing Mario 1 and 2, The Goonies, Top Gun and some other things. My cousins on my father's side had a Genesis and some of my fondest memories are playing the original Sonic and Streets of Rage with them. My cousins on my mother's side had a SNES so I got to play games like DKC2 and Cool Spot, among other things.

The first home console I actually owned was a Sega Saturn which my father bought. I don't care what anyone says, the Saturn was a fantastic console, it was just a poorly handled mess outside of Japan due to the fuckery of NoJ and NoA's heads at the time. It's still a great console; my fav next to the PlayStation. I was also gifted a Game Boy Color at the age of six along with Pokemon Red.
>>
>>376708532

Sega has always been "Toaster Treats" to Nintendo's "Pop Tarts." Even before the 16-bit wars.
>>
I was more a Game Boy/Playstation babby if anything and only knew about older games by the power of emulators, although I can admit being more Nintendo than Sega even if I do appreciate a few rare gems from Sega (Ristar, Puyo Puyo). I'm admittedly 25 so.

I do remember being under some Sega influence when I was younger thanks to my brothers though. I specifically remember a Sega Master System controller. If I ever witnessed Genesis action, it was a rare sight (maybe that's where the early Earthworm Jim/Pinocchio memories came from) but I arguably remember more from the Saturn, where I've witnessed NiGHTs into dreams, Virtua Fighter, this awfully silly Die Hard Arcade game and plenty others alongside our Playstation where I'd often play too.

To this day, it's amazing to believe I hardly remember my childhood, I feel like I'm playing a jigsaw puzzle every time I try to reminisce.
>>
>>376708532
>Were you a Nintendo kid or a Sega kid?

Both, I'd say. I had an NES and a Gameboy, a Genesis, and the N64 was the first console I ever bought with my own money.
>>
>>376716702
You mean the Hydrox to Nintendo's Oreo.
>>
>>376717110

Nintendo was established in 1889. 70 years before Sega. And Nintendo didn't rip off Sega's recipe and claim it as their own to the point of advertising that Sega ripped Nintendo off.

That said, Hydrox is still better than Oreos. Suck it, haters.

I remember when the Nintendo 64 first came out. There was a review in GamePro (the paper magazine) where the guy was saying how amazing it was to flip the power switch and the game instantly appearing on the screen -- this was after years of reviewing the PlayStation games where there was that LONG boot up process.

I always remember that review, because I felt the same way. It was so damn nice to just flip and switch and start playing. That is the last system that ever happened on.

If you remember, even on the PlayStation, you had to open the lid and then hit the power button just to get to the menu for memory card management and stuff. It still tried to go directly to the game otherwise even though it took a full 20 seconds to get to the main game menu.

Nintendo kid, and I think Nintendo's design philosophy is now kinda hard wired into my head. I genuinely can't get into most modern Sony exclusives (other than Soulsborne), and neither can I get into old Sega games.

I would consider myself an idort now though.

I had friends with sega systems though so i was never missing out really.
>>

80s guy butting in.

Most people who grew up with Genesis and Mega Drive just called it a "Sega", just like we called the NES a Nintendo and a Super Nintendo a Super Nintendo. Nobody in my entire life growing up ever called it a Genesis or a Mega Drive or a Master System or anything. A Sega was a Sega, and a Nintendo was a Nintendo.
>>
>>376722268
The UK was a lot different.

Everyone in the UK called it SNEZ, but wrote it SNES.

Everyone called the Mega Drive the Mega Drive'. No one shortened it to 'Mega' or 'Drive' or 'Sega'.
