Why do videogames rarely present science properly?
Especially true for AAA games. Some indie titles try at least so it can't be that hard.

Provide examples.

Portal, Kerbal Space Program and Ascent all represent science pretty shitty.
Why aren't videogames more like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wllc5gSc-N8
Because they can just replace science with magic, and that doesn't require any knowledge. Only thing they have to worry about with magic is making plot holes.
>>376707259
Because fiction in general rarely presents science properly. This is a problem that goes far beyond just vidya.
>>376707451
Oh, is this a barely-video-game shitposting thread that's going to devolve into /pol/?
Awesome.

Nice false flag attempt but actually you guys are right. I feel like a game with more realistic science and math as part of the gameplay would be fucking awesome and if you could somehow make the game fun and hide the best gear behind advanced calculus stuff you'd also maybe make some people really smart.

Aren't you supposed to be in class right now?
>>376707259
If people wanted to do science they'd just do it irl.
>>376711802
But more people would do it if they got a powerful glowing laser sword that made them more effective in pvp.

>Mechanical Engineers are scientists because they believe it so.
I'm a Scientist too, I won 233 Nobel Prizes.
None of them in Peace.

Difficult enough it took mathematicians hundreds of years to construct.

A good thread had to die for OP's off-topic shit posting.

Bill Nye the commie guy
>>376708413
>>376708932
Bill Nye never proclaimed himself as a scientist, because he knows he is not one.
But he did get his bs in mechanical engineering from Cornell, which does makes him qualified to talk about science concepts to the public.
>>376708996
I blame it on his need to argue with creationists.
>>376712021
But not difficult to understand. 4chan also took the collective effort of humanity to create, but any 14 year old redditor can waltz right in.

Nor does he come out and state "I am a not a scientist, I do not have a background in biology or chemistry".
A mechanical engineering degree does NOT qualify you to discuss things such as biology and chemistry. Physics, sure.
>>376713012
I bet he's more qualified than a random Anon though so why are we having this thread in /v/ of all places?

>>376713651
Do you happen to have the others' opinions on the subject?
>>376712207
Not about biology...
>>376713872
No, but even if I did, I wouldn't post them. Such threads are reserved for idiots like yourself.
>>376714003
You've contributed more to this thread than I have and exhibited a stronger opinion. It's foolish to pretend now that you're above it all.
Really, though, if your intention is to discredit someone by attacking his credentials, the least you can do is make sure the people you're comparing him to aren't in agreement with him.
>>376713651
I hate when potential scientists follow the wrong path, like that He-Man Conan III and rockstar guy.
They should have been scientist, not actors and rockstars.
>>376714520
Just highlighting the idiocy of people like you, who use a hack like Bill Nye as a reference, even though there are far more intelligent and qualified people.
>>376714852
Immediately have to make it personal, eh? I was just here to point out your idiocy. I've made no claims about Bill Nye.
>>376715085
>I've made no claims about Bill Nye.
I never insinuated you did. Thank you for further proving your stupidity.
>>376714560
Being a scientist sounds really tough. Not only you need to study years for your degree but your work will mostly be uncertain with constant applications for funding.
>>376715353
>I never insinuated you did
>people like you, who use a hack like Bill Nye as a reference
Sad that you're reduced to this so soon.
Anyway, weren't these threads reserved for idiots? What does it say about you that you apparently can't help yourself?

Accurate science is shit in games for the same reason as it is in any other fiction.
It doesn't make good entertainment nor good escapism. If you want real science do anything other than play video games or read/watch fiction.
