I'm thinking about it but never really played a Wipeout game before, what's one to quickly pirate to see if I'll enjoy it?

One of the best Wipeouts to pirate is number imo 3. Wipeout 2097 isn't too bad also.

This game has some pretty deep as lore. Corruption, loyalty, rivalries.

2097/XL honestly has one of the best licensed soundtracks of any game ever though (even not considering Firestarter)

Wipeout soundtracks are an electronic music fan's wet dream, 2097 alone had Future Sound of London, Chemical Brothers, Photek, Underworld and The Prodigy, and the other games had Aphex Twin, Orbital, Stanton Warriors, Hybrid, Booka Shade and fucking Kraftwerk (remixed though)

Also Designers Republic, they did a great job with the early games. The original Wipeout has my favourite cover art of any game.

How would you compare 2048 to the rest of the series? I've played only the demo and controls were horrible (trigger for for acceleration and only one button for airbrakes) and the racetrack was too wide.
