no rugrats
WoW 2004 - 2006 + Nostalrius 2015 - 2016 best time of my life.
Hardcore raiding in WoW.
1 main character, 4 alts, 18 hour raid days for 2 weeks straight.
Doing the raid 5x on Heroic and 5x on Normal.
All for a couple world 5 kills, wasn't worth at all.
What game OP?
runescape
playing it right now :(
>>376698628
Never played it? Good game?
I missed a dentist appointment to raid AQ40 with my guild a few days ago
>>376698498
silkroad online, its dead since a few years tho dont bother
>>376696651
70 cap silkroad was the best
euro expansion was pretty good too
everything else was shit
>>376698628
>that pic
What the fuck?
>>376698628
I sank 6000 hours in RS.
I was max combat and half way to all 99s. Then EOC came out and I never dropped a game faster in my life.
>>376696651
>you will never play silkroad again for the first time on release day
i hate what life has become, i want to go back
>>376698628
looks like a mess what the fuck happenedgraphics look breddy gud tho
>>376698772
Great game. But I'm kinda biased, I have 10k hours in it.
There are a few things that it does better than any other MMO.
- There are endless long-term goals to work towards
- The quest system is comprised of many branching small and large independent storylines, some of them very good,
- There are WEEKLY content updates (and patch notes to go with them),
- There is a very wide variety of gameplay to suit your playstyle or even your mood
- The community is probably one of, if not THE most friendly of MMO communities (not the oldschool version though, OSRS's community is pure cancer)
Actually speaking of osrsfags there will be a couple of them replying to my image spewing bullshit about how different it is from their nostalgic 2007 game and how bad that is. Like clockwork. I haven't even clicked update yet and I know there will be at least one.
>>376696651
>>376699091
Sounds like you have a chip on your shoulder. I know the community is divided, but who gives a shit about who trashes something you like? Wow, they have a different opinion! Better act like a defensive cunt.
Loosen up and just like what you like. It's just a game after all.
Ragnarok online, like 10 years of it, 6 hardcore gaming it, didn't even bothered going to school at that point, great years.
SWTOR
>>376698772
If you like grinding. It's got some of the best quests in all of MMOdom's history, but there's a lot of grinding in between some of the higher leveled ones, and the more recent ones have pretty shit writing.
You don't have to get invested with the combat at all, just be a peaceful crafter or whatever, but the high level combat stuff is pretty challenging, especially since there's a 0.6 second delay before you do anything.
There's the oldschool version which is just the server from 2007 with some different content and bullshit that wasn't around then.
The playerbase is almost entirely autists that either sunk too much time into the modern version and don't want to feel like they've wasted their lives on it, or autists that can't stand the relatively new combat system and updates that wound up killing off content and player interaction. Both groups will viciously fight over whose shitheap is better.
It's really not worth getting in to either way.
>>376699232
You'd get tired of it too if your favorite game was constantly and extremely vocally bagged on irrationally by multiple people every time it were mentioned anywhere ever.
>>376696651
>Ragnarok Online did the opposite
Well, alright.
>>376699538
Kind of like OSRS, huh?
>>376699538
>oh no, they keep making fun of what I like :(((( stawp it hurts my feefees
Grow up. It's not that big a deal. Runescape is not some virgin maiden you need to protect.
Vindictus, finally got a +15 weapon after many years of playing. Haven't logged in since then.

You're joking, right?
>>376699652
I'm not protecting anything, I'm just calling 07fags retards. Which they are.
Not ruined my life because i got smart and stopped playing it but damn, once you hit level 36 or so it's basically impossible to level up
WoW, and Blizzard games in general.
Their shit is so polished that I struggle to enjoy any other games. Most of them feel like glorified flash games to me.
>>376699841
A polished turd is still a turd. See everything past 2008.
>>376699841
>Their shit is so polished that I struggle to enjoy any other games. Most of them feel like glorified flash games to me.
>blizzdrones really think this
>>376699841

>>376699937
Whatever you say. It is true that blizzard put more work into stuff then most companies in recent years. Not like they pump out dime a dozen cash in games like some.
>>376699761
To strawman:
>hurf look at all dese bots
>durf look at dis cancerous community
>lamo look at dese shitty updates/this update is the exact same as RS3!
>wow these grafix are TERIBLE
>combat is boring and SUCKS
It's pretty much the same criticism as OSRSfags use, just repackaged.
I'm kind of curious as to what kind of game it would be had Andrew Gower remained the head honcho all these years instead of surrendering responsibility to Markdonalds.
>>376699937
It's not as true these days.. but back in WoW's prime, 2006-2009 (IMO, and I didn't look up specific expansion dates so lick my balls) there was a lot of bullshit out.
Everquest. Lost a job to that game back when it came out. I eventually did get my shit back together though. Blizzard pretty much cured MMO addiction by destroying the market with their casual shit.
Wasted my youth on Ragnarok Online and I'd do it again.

>It's pretty much the same criticism as OSRSfags use, just repackaged.
You're conveniently leaving out the fact that it happens maybe 5% of the amount that OSRSfags do it
Literally look at ANY piece of RS3 content on any website. Youtube, Twitch, 4chan, Hell, the post I made at the beginning of this thread. There is ALWAYS a trail of OSRSfags spewing bullshit.
Ruined my life because it got me into PC gaming

uo is shit tho, it's runescape 0.5
>>376700415
No, Runescape used to be a browser game and is currently in the process of phasing out their Java client for a new downloadable one.
You CAN use the old java client to play it in-browser if you want (actually I'm not sure if you can even do this anymore since most browsers have discontinued java plugins), but it's recommended to get the regular client so just get that if you wanna try it out.
Tried FFXI when it first came out, but I was just a kid, no idea what to do, burned out without ever getting past level 12.
Tried Guild Wars 2, years later, more competent now, enjoyed the game, progressed decently, still got burnt out after a month or two
Thought MMOs probably just aren't for me. Then FFXIV was announced, and I followed the development a bit.
Laughed through the 1.0 shitshow thinking I'd dodged a bullet, yet still wound up following 2.0's development too, and for whatever reason, can't even remember, bought the PS3 version at its launch.
Played it for about half a year before getting burned out yet again. Figured oh well, final nail in the coffin, MMOs never again. Then a couple months later, I got an unfamiliar urge. I actually wanted to play XIV again. Over two years later and I think the only time since I've gone more than a day without playing some is when I took a vacation to Japan.
>>376700426
I played back in 2013, stopped, then a friend got me back in in January. Send help.
>>376700531
Release date for java free client?
>>376700575
Currently out. It should be the default download from the website.

I'm sure there's a well reasoned course of debate that will forever change your mind on RS3, OSRS, maybe the entire genre in general, but it's late and I'm tired, so I'll have to leave you with the following words of wisdom:
You talk like a fag and you're shits all retarded.
>nobody on /v/ ever played everquest
>>376700698
Sweet dreams anon. I hate you too.
>>376696651
I skipped 75% of my classes one semester to play WoW. It was the semester I had my highest GPA.
Maybe if I kept skipping class to play WoW I wouldn't have dropped out.
>>376700645
Should i try it out? I hate themepark mmorpgs.
>>376700562

if you dont have OCD "must collect it all" you'll get bored quickly anyway
>>376700426
>>376700562
I played a little but thankfully saw how awful the grind was and how much of the game required buying shit to make any kind of meaningful progress without playing 100+ hours a week
>>376700872
Buying shit defeats the whole purpose of the game: to grind for shit.
>>376700867I'm a tier 2 founder, so I fucking bought plat. The grind is consuming me, help.
>>376700860
Go for it. It's not like it's going anywhere.
AFAIK it's the only MMO that doesn't even remotely follow the themepark model. Every corner of the map has content for all levels.

I did. I played from launch until PoP.
>>376699569

>>376696651
got around 7k hours in Tera spread evenly across EU and NA versions. It was fun but it hurt my enjoyment of non-mmo games so I'm trying to regain that back. NA publisher recently went even more retarded so I finally quit.
>>376696651
It ruined my life at the time so much as it made me stop caring about everything, neglected my shit girlfriend and ultimately made me hit "bottom". Never been better, glad it fucked me up, don't think I'd be where I am now if that didn't happen.
Will love this shitty fucking korean garbage game forever.
NCsoft shutting it down probably saved me from flunking Discrete math...
But ill be damned if I dont still hate them for doing it.
Please don't judge me.I actually got good memories of this game...
Lineage 2, and then GoD expansion killed it for me. Dion village still most comfy place in all mmos

UO posters are legit though
Trickster Online and Lunia. They weren't all that good but I made so many friends I couldn't stop playing, even after my friends had left one by one.
I thought I was just shy since MMORPGs were the only place where I actually enjoyed making friends and hanging out with large groups. But no, nowadays I'm very confident and have several friends but somehow I don't enjoy spending time with them the same way I did online.
Real life doesn't feel real enough for me. The relationships aren't as personal. I can't be truly myself around someone who's physically there. Vacations and trips have nothing on the adventures we used to go on in dangerous high-level areas. Even if I play a game with a friend, it simply isn't as immersive as with a stranger.

Silkroad was amazing. Had a level 90 Warrior / Warlock. That took a huge amount of party grinding for 5 hours a day with a ticket to get to. After 90, it wasn't worth continuing.

All really wonderful games, but FFXI was great too. You still played one of the best.

Mabinogi was, at the time of it's launch in Korea and while the original dev team still worked on it, the most well designed and overall most enjoyable MMORPG that has been released to date. And on that note, if you want a step by step list on how to completely gut and ruin an MMO, you need only pull up a list of the game's patches.
I can never forgive Nexon or Devcat for their sins.
>>376701510

Muh nigga. I started playing EverQuest when I was 11, then dropped it around when they added Gunthak. Still the best game I've ever played, though it set me up to be a sleep-deprived introvert in school.
This seems like a good place to ask. Know any good WoW private server with a halfway decent PvP community?
At this point I'm willing to agree to things I didn't think I would. For instance, a PvE server is fine if they have an endgame PvP community. I'll even take Cataclysm if I have to, but no further. WotLK would be preferable. The lower the rates the better; but I can go up to x10.
Can anyone help a former junkie? I've gone through the top100 lists and they're either lvl 255 "fun" bullshit, full PvE content only and token PvP 4 guys who sometimes do arena twice a week, instant max levels with crazy rewards for everyone and so on.
>>376700426
I don't know how anyone could be into this game, the grind is fucking unreal and the combat is more flashy then anything else

WoW saved me from my life back when I was 15. Lets not make pretend that life in society isnt shitty, narrowminded and elitist. Videogames and such aren't an escape but an extra to life that actually brings fun and entertainment instead of the endless frustration that is interacting with other people.
I stopped feeling guilty for enjoying things long ago. Time to neglect the social narrative friends, gaming is fun!

I have to disagree. After getting comp cape I still think it's one of most elitist communities I've been a part of.
I wasted a lot of time in RO and I know its not an MMO but this pretty much did it for me.
I can't for the life of me stop playing it back then. I'd strangle myself if I could go back in time.

>>376703543
actually the grind for the most part is low compared to most mmos, its just that nothing is explained so you have no idea how to easily max anything in 15 min or how to farm effectively, the game is very noob-unfriendly and puzzling while being super easy at the same time (once you know whats what)
the thing with WF is that there are no other games like it so I keep on returning for my fix of fast action
(well there is Destiny but its expensive with all the mandatory DLCs, ps4-only and has much more grind and less updates)
I wouldn't say it ruined my life, but I sunk lots of time into TERA. I was really close to everyone in my raid group but didn't really keep in touch with any of them when I stopped playing. I miss them a lot.
Shit, any good free MMO's nowadays?

how can you people say that modern blizzard is even fucking close to old school blizzard? did you never play wc2/scbw/d2/wc3/vanilla WoW? modern blizz is literally only good at sucking money out of autists off of "muh nostalgia" as their goodwill slowly and rightfully fades from the industry. they're a travesty to their godtier legacy

it's actually insane how much everything changed right around the merger
The grind after level 95 into 100 was so insane it felt like it lasted the same ammount of time I took to reach level 95 from 0.
The game became a fucking nightmare at level 100 where the price of everything skyrocket, and you had to buy gear and spells for multiple characters (and wastey money on the characters themselves). It also had a super retarded mechanic where you had to level new mercenary characters from 1.
I really enjoyed the pvp, anyway.
