If you like Nintendo games, sure. Wouldn't count on third party support just yet, but it will probably happen at this rate. I'd wait either way for more games to be announced.

No. There is literally nothing for it thats worthwhile. BotW is free on Wii U/PC and runs better, everything else is either a port or just bad.

I already have a gaming laptop but it's not working so great. I figure it's easier to just use my laptop for school/work and get a console for vidya.

$300 for switch
$60 for zelda
$20 for DLC
$380 for a glorified zelda machine (without a decent controller) that will play Mario Racer 12 in a few months. The hentai viewing experience isn't even that wow! Buy yourself a better moniter for trap Pr0n.

This weeks announcements seems to suggest that Switch might be getting actual 3rd party support.

If they have even as much 3rd party support as Gamecube, Switch will be a very good system t own.

I'd say wait until Christmas for Mario, but it's already hard to find so it'll probably be even harder to find now.
It's a really good portable system and it has a promising line-up, but right now there's only Zelda, Mario Kart, and some smaller games.

Mostly, it depends on what kinda games you want to play.

Honestly OP, if you don't have one by now it makes 100% more sense to wait until the holiday season.

BotW DLC will be fully out by then (if you were interested in it in the first place), Mario will have just released, and there's a good chance you'll see some Christmas sales or at least a bundled game.

They do shit on the e-shop, especially around holidays.
Though this Christmas is gonna be huge for them, I wouldn't count on anything for Zelda, Splatoon or MK8D. Maybe if ARMs flops.

Nintendo games won't be put on sale, but I wouldn't be surprised to see some 3rd party titles cheap during black friday. Stuff like Puyo Puyo Tetris and Bomberman for 20 don't seem unlikely to me.

If you already have a Wii U, wait until the holidays in case Nintendo releases a special bundle. I'm totally in love with the Switch and think it's the best Nintendo system since the SNES, but after 140 hours of BoTW, there isn't a whole lot to do but veg out to Mario Kart and play Shovel Knight. This holiday the Switch will have a new Mario, Arms, Splatoon 2, and Xenoblade 2 (hopefully), so you'll have plenty of games to occupy your time if you pick one up then.

My only wish is that the console will get a mindless 7/10 3rd person shooter where I can shoot enemies and they will die.

As a Nintenbro I'm trying to be unbiased, but if you like what you see coming out this year, and you aren't stingy about saving $50 from a price cut or bundle I don't see why you shouldn't get it earlier so you can have some fun with it.
