According to the article it's about half people who don't have friends, and half people who are doing it to play with a more experienced player (since apparently most of their clients are super low level) and be coached.

Though there was one part that was like:

Vidya is a fucking sausage fest. I'd legit give this service a try. Not out of some virgin or desperation shit. If you know women who would play obscure and/or time consuming co-op games with you, then I'm happy for you and all, but that shit isn't exactly a common thing available for everybody.
