The next Armored Core game is rumored to be VR, just wait for now.

Can you imagine a Steel Battalion VR game complete with dual stick mech pilot controller?
Oh sweet jesus.
>>
We've suffered enormously due to Sony and Facebooks exclusivity bullshit, but they (or at least Facebook) seem to have finally given it up, and a lot of the timed exclusives are going to start going free this summer and fall.

I have my highest hopes for this E3 to bring really great, big reveals of AAA VR content. Zenimax and Valve, of course, but I want to believe there will be genuine surprises as well.
>>
>>376671035
What exactly are you talking about op?
I love my VR headset.
You mad because you cant afford one? I litterally had a chick over my house playing two nights ago and she gave me a blowjob after.
>>
You forgot to put the right anwser.

People who thought VR was a meme
>>
>>376671035
VR games will only succeed if they come with their own specific controllers. FPS games should come with a motion sensor "gun" controller. Driving games with a wheel, hack and slash games with a sword motion controller, etc.

The whole concept of VR centers around immersion and using a gamepad breaks that shit up.
>>
Users. They're being forced to choose between betamax and VHS currently.
>>
>>376673289
Microsoft's saying their headsets are gonna show up at E3. We just found out they have roomscale and hand presence, go for $300-400, and might run on a toaster. If these headsets don't suck, we're gonna see a fuckton of content come out for them, and most of it should easily port to steamVR.
>>
>>376673609
if your'e using a gamepad with VR your'e doing it wrong
>>

>Sony and Facebooks exclusivity bullshit

This right here should have told people VR was really just meant to be a cash-in and not really supposed to be an innovation. They were and still are thinking VR will be the next big market to break into and make money the same way cellphones did when they were first becoming smartphones.
>>
>>376671035
Devs. They had to pay and invest to make all of these games that very few people are going to buy. The average person on the street knows what nintendo is but doesn't know that VR headsets exist. Even among gamers, we're very cautious about buying into VR. Especially since most of the games are merely "experiences".

Devs are really losing out on this, and the reason is that they half assed VR. They wanted to be the first in or merely play it safe, so none of them has made a true system selling game. Something that makes people go "Yes, I will buy a VR headset for THIS". They're all waiting for someone else to make VR the next big thing, so it won't be. Not yet anyway
>>
>>376671035
Devs. VR is prohibitively expensive for the average user, so pretty much no one fell for the meme. Devs, on the other hand, actually put time and money into this memeware.

>>376671610
I need proof of this.
>>
>>376673609
You can do all that shit with the hand-controls that VR is already using. If you're really sperging out and need the added weight that special peripherals would add all you need is a some cheap plastic clip-ons like the wii-stick "gun" housing.

Devs, probably
Most people right now are treating VR like one of those 'kind of here but more on the horizon' type technologies, like driverless cars and true-to-life working prosthetics. Right now they need to invest into it more and start releasing games that make people want to buy into the periphery. They say they're waiting on the market to become available, but the truth is if it's the gamer who starts investing into it right now all we're going to get is more shitty $30 meme food grilling games and feminist groping simulators.

I hope it works out though. I do feel bad for the devs but also kind of for the people who bought into it early, because more than likely their headset is going to be out of date once VR starts to really take off

Indeed, VR is in a bit of a spiral:
>The lack of users means a lack of devs
>The lack of devs means a lack of proper vidya
>The lack of proper vidya means fewer users

It falls on devs to break the cycle. So, What do you think of my prototype? Fuck "experiences." I want to make the Budokai Tenkaichi 3 of VR.

>>376675190
Also, yes. VR porn is pretty limited, but what it's got is pretty good, especially if you're into waifus.

Of course I did, the thing is beautiful when laid out. Custom machined parts as far as the eye can see. It's a perfect example of over-spending on engineering for the sake of over-spending on engineering. It's a work of modern art showing the folly of silicon valley and their modes of thought.
>>
>>376673609
>The whole concept of VR centers around immersion and using a gamepad breaks that shit up.
Not if you've been playing games for more than a decade. Gamepads should feel like an extension of yourself at this point.

I get the love for motion controls but honestly, I think they are one of the biggest things holding VR down right now. Price and lack of content is definitely a factor, but to the average person, motion controls mean:

>some gimmick shit like Kinect
>some hassle I have to deal with setting up
>something I have to make further accommodations for in my living space
>something that makes me have to stand up for hours straight

VR companies and devs should push away from the motion controls. Their intention is all well and good but it's a burden more than a benefit.

And if they take on? Well, enjoy playing much shorter games, which is probably what will come about from that. A lot of the VR tech demo games being praised are basically minigames already, which no serious game player could ever give a shit about.
>>
>>376671035
The people who fall for /v/ memes and miss out the fun.
>>
>>376676210
>Kinect

Kinect, Wii, PSmove don't hold a candle to old technology like Razer hydra let alone the likes of what SteamVR uses.
>>
>>376676991
Doesn't matter, the social stigma is already there. And that is just one of several reasons I listed. I'd rather hear a rebuttal to the "standing up for hours" thing, that is a far more serious issue.
>>
>>376673783
>We just found out they have roomscale and hand presence, go for $300-400, and might run on a toaster.
that's ridiculous hype. nobody really knows if their tracking works at all, much less how well (probably not as well as Vive or Rift). and the PC performance needed is essentially identical for HMDs of the same resolution (unless/until we get foveated rendering).
>>
>>376675713
>It falls on devs to break the cycle.
Nah, it falls on the manufacturers to make the things affordable for the average user. It makes no sense for a dev to make a AAA VR game if the cross platform user base is smaller than the WiiU's and 99.99% of potential customers are going to look at the game and say "That looks cool, but it's not worth shelling out as much as a new console for".
>>
>>376677880
Fair point. Fair point. I'll at least say that devs should start development now so that, when things do become more affordable, there's a nice library for people to jump in on when they join the VR party.
>>
>>376678049
Nobody is going to bet the future of their company on the hope that VR manufacturers get a clue. For all they know VR is the new 3d tv and manufacturers will just dump the whole thing when they decide that their mismanagement of the product has made it less profitable than they expected.

Not me that's for damn sure. My smug is reaching levels we could only dream of. This VR shit won't really hit its stride for at least one more gen, and eve then the genre and pace of games that it can except will be limited based on the human' abilities its cripples itself with. You will never be able to play something like DOOM on a VR headset.
>>
>>376677094

>You will never be able to play something like DOOM on a VR headset.

Bethesda had a demo for the latest doom they also said is coming after Fallout 4 vr support, but I guess you won't be able to play it the same way.

All flat gaming has stagnated. There is no innovation left to be had, just the same games copied over and over again with better graphics.

VR is full of new ideas and experimentation. Even the short arcade-ish indie games are hell of a lot more fun than anything on a flat screen.

Larger devs are already coming over.
Pay Day 2 Is adding VR support.
Doom and Fallout VR later this year.
Star Trek Bridge Crew.
Valve has announced they will be revealing 3 VR titles this year.
>>
The users, because at least some of the devs made some money.

once you get used to it nothing makes you sick anymore. Your brain just needs to rewire.

You're getting ahead of yourself by about 10 or so years. There's still droves of "flat games" coming out MONTHLY with 2-3 of them being good each month. Nothing on the VR competes with any of them.
