which games aged like wine?
>>376661660
I'd say Mario 64 or Ocarina of Time, but there are people today that won't play it because of muh grafix, so I guess it doesn't fit the criteria of the thread

True both.
I'd also name Silent Hill 1. One of the greatest survival horror titles ever, but "m-muh graphix!" people tend to avoid it. Luckily, the first 10 minutes usually tend to prove that great audio + creepy environments and events matter way more than HD pixels.

re4 is truly a timeless game, much better than REmake, which is hot garbage in le sun

>>376662062
Mario 64 is clunky and only really good if you grew up with it. Easily the worst 3D Mario platformer.
>>376662492
>REmake, which is hot garbage in le sun
it's actually the best version of the game, the HD version anyway, sans the horrible compressed cutscenes
>>376661660
Megaman 3.

Sonic 2

>SH1
Came here to say this.
Also those PS1 graphics being so "harsh"-looking actually somehow add to the aesthetic.

You're wrong. I never got to play an N64 game before 2009, when I played SM64 for the first time. And I can tell ya, it was damn much fun, and easily BTFO all later sequels by a mile.
>>376662492
Go suck a rhinoceros cock
System shock 2
>>376661660
>so many ports, still can't aim with the right stick
NOPE
>>376663390
So I guess if you DIDN'T grow up with it, it's GOTYAY?
The controls are clunky, the camera sucks, the graphics are passable -- saved mostly by the art style, the levels get worse and worse, there's only a handful of songs that eventually get reused.
Now, there are fun levels / stars but to me there's so many more annoying things than good.

Armored Core: Last Raven for me, no other game kicks my ass so hard like this game.
this and beyond good and evil
i think all ratchet games after ratchet 1 are somewhat timeless since they perfected the formula and for what it is trying to be it's perfect.
>>376664595I think Ratchet 1 has even aged well and is better than some sequels. But it is a different kind of game in some regards.
>tfw the golden age of arcade racing games is dead
>>376661660
The only game that has aged better than pic related is Pong.
>>376662062
>pic related on the other hand
what? seems like your run of the mill rpg
>>376664795
meh, without strafing it just doesn't feel great to go back to it.
it's still playable and all but considering the sequels improved the fundamental gameplay i wouldn't call ratchet 1 timeless.
>>376661660
>>376665104
That is an issue, I agree, but I like the platforming and exploration focus of 1 and that you needed to be more strategic in situations with your weapons.
>>376665219
Yeah, holy shit, this.
I'd never played it until like a year ago and I couldn't put the thing down for a few weeks. Excellent stuff.
>>376662612
SM64 still has the best platforming physics in any 3d platformer prove me wrong
>>376665219
This and gustar heroes are still amazing to play.
MGS2
>>376665492
I don't agree, but it's still probably the best MGS
the storyline is too 'of it's time' and full of 'le wtf moments' to really hold up to today
wine turns into vinegar eventually
>>376665357
I can't. Because you are objectively correct
>>376664943
trial and error trash with pretty visuals and sound
>>376664214
i can feel my brain ripping in half the first hour of playing a new resident evil game as i adust to shit like this. re5 has a re4 control scheme, but you have to aim with the right stick. after re4 started to make sense this hurt me. then i switched to revelations 2 and kept reloading in enemys faces when i wanted to melee them. i even forgot to move and shoot

That's pretty much all video games. Does dying really upset you so much?
>trash
Elaborate.
Castlevania on NES is still a good and challenging experience despite the fucking mermans walking on the ceiling and dropping on top ofyou
>>376668545
Great game, I finish it one time every year since 2013, it's always cool doing self imposed challenges like not using holy water.
>>376668980
Agreed, I use my PSP to emulate and Castlevania is probably my most played game on it (probably because I always forget the boss strategies and have to tryhard for hours in order to beat it)
>>376662786
Also this

you're joking
