I hate to be "that guy" but yes, actually. Any pole arm or spear is a superior weapon to the katana or most swords. Most swords were side arms soldiers would carry and the spear or pole arm of whatever type would usually be what they fought with most of the time.

Yeah they were secondary weapons in the late medieval when hammers and maces were more popular to go against armour but in the middles ages swords were vastly used as a primary weapon.
