You probably havent tried factorissimo or angel's mods if you've been gone that long.

Probably the smartest thing they did in this patch was the revamp of science. Alien artifacts were always where I stalled because I never felt like just spending all my time looking for biters. I'm hoping to finally get to multiple rockets a minute in this patch.
