If your account has been inactive for years (unsure the exact length, but they made it sound like multiple expansions) then you basically "lose" your name the same way if your name was reported. On relogin you'd have to rename your character and your old name becomes available. As for finding characters, they only show up int he armory if you logged in within the last month or so.

I used to like Undead, played a warlock; honestly, I love every race except Undead on Horde in their own way. I don't hate undead or anything, I'm just really tired of Sylvanas. If they get rid of her I can get behind being undead again.

what I've worked it down to:

Warrior: Orc/Tauren/Gob/Pandaren (this one is hard, but probably Orc)
Rogue: Gob, Pandaren, or Orc. BE and UD are maybes
Mage: probably undead but troll, BE, gob also strong contenders
Hunter: I don't have a lot of interest in hunters so I haven't thought about it much, probably Orc or Goblin
Paladin: I don't really like either choice. BE fits the armor aesthetic better but Tauren are cooler as a race
Warlock: probably Goblin but Orc and Troll also great
Druid: Tauren. trolls certainly aren't bad though
Priest: don't really care once again, probably undead or troll
Shaman: pandaren or orc. my original character was a tauren shaman and I love the idea but I'm really not crazy about the tauren model
Monk: Orc
DK: Orc or BE
DH: BE of course

That's my current autism chart, so my only mains are a brewmaster and a DH because those are the only classes I'm sure on.

Paladin is one of the hardest ones for me. Tauren were my favorite race coming out of WC3, but I'm just not a fan of their awkward proportions and animations in WoW. Draenei despite being a lorefuck did the whole hoof look much better IMO, Tauren have like giant saucers for feet.

I'm torn on BE because I legitimate like them as a race, as someone who usually hates elves. Pretty much just like them and Altmer. Kael'thas was cool. But I don't want to contribute to the drowning out of the core Horde races and aesthetic, so I reserve BE for races that have a sort of regal, medieval-europe aesthetic like paladins, mages and DKs.

They have great animations and aesthetic IMO. I can see how the voice acting is hit or miss depending on taste. I'm usually not a fan of the comedic stuff (don't like gnomes at all) but I think goblins are great and actually fit in the world as the unscrupulous merchant race.

Melee animations are pretty good but the ranged animations are killer, the bowling ball cast is amazing. I'm almost definitely going to have my warlock be a goblin and maybe one other (rogue or hunter probably).

depends on how far in you get
if all you're doing is leveling a character from 1 to 60, you can get by but it'll be harder to make enough money to pay for your abilities. that's about it. it's a slight impact.
if you plan to do anything else, being able to make money is a big part of playing the game and essentially legitimized gold farming really makes it tough.

Like, for warrior; sure, orc is the stereotype, but tauren warrior totally fits. Troll totally fits. Goblin bruisers and forsaken guards are totally things, maybe a bit less iconic but not at all like you're having to stretch the lore. BEs probably get the most shit but really, spellbreakers are mostly warriors. Lor'themar is like a half warrior. There have been plenty of BE knights before there were ever BE paladins.

I could do this for pretty much any class. Personally, as long as it doesn't feel unnatural, the aesthetic takes over.

Hunters totally fit tauren I agree, but is it really less fitting for a troll? Or even an orc? I'd say they all fit extremely well for hunters. Tauren hunters are great don't get me wrong and I'm strongly considering making my hunter a tauren but I just feel like for almost all classes there are at least 2-3 races that really strongly fit the fantasy, and it just comes down to preference. E.g., orc and tauren for shaman. Sure orcs are the "iconic" shaman race but looking beyond Thrall and Drek'thar and the WC3 shaman unit, Tauren fit just as well. I'd argue Pandaren too, given the whole elemental journey you go on in their starting zone and since they're all about preserving balance. Trolls too, since shaman take abilities from the shadow hunter hero of WC3.

you're right; goblins don't fit the modern warrior class fantasy at all. it's a shame, they probably would have fit pretty well in vanilla, when most players were just considered mercenaries basically. you can say they'd fight dragons and such because the potential rewards were worth putting their life on the line. it could work, but now warrior class fantasy is all about fighting spirit and vikings and shit and it really doesn't work for goblins.

They really killed the warrior fantasy for me with the viking shit. I hope they entirely forget that going forward. Warriors are probably the most diverse class in how you can interpret them (berserker, knight, mercenary-type), and the viking warrior one is the worst possible choice. Definitely makes a lot of races (Goblins, Undead, BEs, Pandaren, Night Elves, etc) feel weird. It only really works for humans, dwarves, and I guess kind-of orcs.

Rogue, priest objectively wrong. Hunter and warlock pretty wrong too. NEs are natural druids but for hunter Tauren, Troll, or Orc make way more sense. I don't know why undead are eternally associated with warlocks, I guess the cinematics. Orcs are the warlock race. Evil mage makes more sense than warlock for undead.

Genders are pretty much irrelevant to the conversation.

If it's less casual then vanilla, why did I run out of things to do in 2 months and quit like every expansion since Cataclysm? I would have played longer if PvP wasn't so boring/shit. From November to January, I reached 890ivl and cleared everything, including boring ass Mythic NH. Nothing is more boring than running the same shitty raid 4x a week on shit difficulty. No wonder why people get so burned out on the shit game. There should only be 2 difficulties max for raiding. Maybe a LFR that's around normal-heroic difficulty, hard enough that you can't AFK like a retard but easy enough to where you could get a pugger through LFR if you're desperate and Mythic.

I used to struggle with character creation too, back when i was a little noob. But I've been playing mmos and rpgs for so long that i have a good 20 preset characters in my head. its much easier to make new ones too since I just mix and match the archetypes and personalities. Character making is a creative skill that you get better at with experience.
