It's not a great port.

In Prototype 2 the main character is so consumed by taking revenge on Mercer that it makes him uninteresting to play as. It's not a power fantasy in the same way like Prototype 1 was, where everything felt new and interesting. The city becoming more and more infected over time adds to the atmosphere as well.

Mechanically and graphically the sequel are better in almost all ways. But regarding everything else I prefer the first one.

If I want to replay the prototypes I'll play both though.

The sense of power you had towards the end was an unmatched high for me to this day. The way it enabled you to shit over everything once you get armor and all the blade upgrades was awesome.

I once heard the reason why they made Alex a villain was because they thought he was too overpowered. Can anyone confirm this?

Prototype 1 was damn challenging as far as open world games go. The myriad of collectibles and challenges you had to do on the way to the Platinum trophy/Full G were incredibly difficult, and as previously mentioned the story itself was fairly challenging

Of course then they made Prototype 2 ridiculously easy with no challenges and less powers to the point where it's one of the easiest open world games to get the achievements for compared to the first game which was one of the hardest.

Prototype 2 the enemies won't attack you until they are on screen most of the time, Supersoldiers and Hunters are a fucking joke in P2. Bulletproof perks make Blackwatch useless and the revamped shields can turtle shell just about all damage the game can dish out, even the hellfire bombardment in the Redzone. Hammerfists are kinda garbage, claws have been made basic, whipfist isn't as effective. Tendrils are the new P1 blade. Putting X for one power and Y for another was a dumb move.

P2 is the clunkier game over Alex's fluid movements in P1.

Playing SRIV made me realise how much of a difference it makes to have a game that's actually designed to be a superhero sandbox game from the ground up. I was having more fun with the levels where your powers are taken away and you're just shooting people than in the main game where you have a bunch of kind of awkward powers to use that aren't really comparable to the guns in how good they feel to use.
I wish radical and pandemic were still alive, they had a more fun approach to open world games
