I play once a "season" complete whatever league to a point and then move on. The people that play POE at a high level tend to people with shit jobs or in college so they have the time to run a character 2-3 times and hunt down rare maps and shit.

hey i just completed normal yesterday

inside the beast was gruesomely awesome and highgate is a nice place

but when do i start getting good drops? i don't think i've changed an item since mid-normal and even if an item is ok i am prohibited by gem slots/links so i cant even use it, also all my spells are still fucking gay "shoot a bit of fire/ice/lightning" from the start of the game, when do good spells drop?

Gear around that area can be sparse. You'll mostly keep an eye out for life/resists/important defenses. Weapons depend a lot on whatever build your playing. Mostly though, if you're gear is halfway solid for leveling, you can go a long time without finding a worthwhile upgrade.

If you need spell selection, the library sidequest in Act 3 ends with a vendor that has all important spells gems, support and not.

More sockets/links come with higher itemlevel gear.

And it's mostly for currency, though it probably affects drop frequency as well. It's also irrelevant unless you're like, ten levels over a zone or something stupid.

In all cases, you either power through to end game, or wait for 3.0 later this summer when you don't have to repeat the same acts over and over again to get to endgame.

thanks man. and yeah its not like im struggling yet, but it still feels weird to not even bother picking up rares any more. maybe because i'm coming from D3.
my ele resists are already over the cap (i dont know about chaos but it not that important until later i suppose). maybe i just got good drops early on, and now im coasting through on that?

since i'm ele witch (arc/freeze pulse) i haven't even replaced my weapon since mid-normal either. at this point the only thing i care about is more links to make fancy support gem chains.
