I know absolutely nothing about the game, just had several people recommend it to me and browsed /v/ and everyone was shitting themselves over it.

It's a great story with a great world and great characters, fun to explore, the Gwent card game is fun, but the combat is pretty mediocre. Solid 9.5/10 all around in my opinion.
>>

>>

I played the shit out of Dragons Dogma how does the combat compare there?
I'm not entirely picky over combat mechanics as long as it's fun to play.
>>
>>376570031
For context, I'm 26 and have played many video games.

It's easily the best game I've played in many years. The immersion and world-building is fantastic.

The combat is pretty shit and repetitive, but there are some interesting things you can do with it. I recommend going Alchemy build.

I got about 200 hours on a single playthrough, and when it was done, I felt a little empty, much like finishing a good book.

It's beautiful, has great characters, and has interesting little short-story-style side bits.
>>
>complete edition

Lmfao devs are not even trying to hide it anymore, OG game wasn't finished
>>
>>376570320
I actually haven't played Dragon's Dogma yet, so maybe you can tell me about that one. Got it wish listed on Steam.
>>
>>376570423
The best I can explain it is just repetitive hacking and slashing with the ability to climb monsters. There's not much strategy to it.
>>
>>376570602
Sounds somewhat similar to TW3 desu.

>>
>>376570915
I just wait for that edition these days but apparently Ubisoft has pushed for companies to stop making these complete editions like the kikes they are.
>>
>>376570031
people will meme you into believing the combat is shit, just like that webm of that guy bashing square on the low level enemies in arkham city.

So I will put this to you, play on death march, go up to the first drowner you see (low level enemy) and bash R2. watch what happens.

essentially what you actually have to do in TW3 is research and read about your enemies and prepare for the battles. or you get fucking rekt

Sign build can be OP as fuck and 2nd level quen can turn it into god mode

I've played both and DD combat was a lot more fun. I liked Witcher 3 more though. Witcher 3 is what I'd call a quintessential AAA production. The combat has some depth if you go down the alchemy route, but is mostly spinning around pretty mindlessly. Most missions are using your 'super vision' (every AAA game has this shit) to walk from point to point. Its that 'by the books' AAA type game, tons of shit to do, none of it particularly interesting.

That said, the game absolutely shines with story, characters and the scope and design of the world. It was my favorite open world game before BotW. It is a highly polished and massive game that rises above its flaws.

You will find very mixed reviews on /v/ as always. If you like open world fantasy "rpgs" you will probably love it. I just finished the main quest line of my first play-through and I very much enjoy it, cant wait to start the expansions that I have heard rival the main game. The combat can get dull, I recommend playing on one of the harder difficulties, and really try to utilize all the combat mechanics the game offers (bombs/oils/signs/fast/strong/parry/counter/dodge/roll). People rip on the combat but just spam dodge, fast attack and one sign.
The in game card game is fun, but get into it from the very beginning for best results.
The environments are gorgeous, the characters are great, and the story is pretty good, but I recommend watching (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncj2xtwyiMo) and part II if you havent played the previous games.
Don't fast travel at the start of the game.
Finally, choose best girl triss___.
>>
>>376570031
It's not that great. The core gameplay gets repetitive fast and semi-level scaling means sidequests are kind of optional. It's hugely casualized with a "go here, do this" approach where "here" and "this" is clearly marked on the map and highlighted when you press a button. Even the highly touted story is not that great and none of the side characters really feel likeable. Even story decisions are compacted into whatever part of the story they're in and has very little carryover. Overall, I gave it a 8/10. It's good, but quickly starts to wear on you if you dig a bit deeper.
>>
>>376574428
Well Slavs aren't a minority in Poland.
>>
>>376574523
This is the worst mindset.
>it's fun if I give myself arbitrary limits to make it fun
Then it's not very fun, is it?
>>
>>376574701
not arbitrary limits, its playing it as it was intended to be played to get the most out of it, even if you don't necessarily have to.
>>
>>376574701
I think he was just talking about mitigating the game's main shortcoming in order to better enjoy all the other things it offers. I didn't see anything wrong with the post.
>>
If you're the type who just hopped off some COWADOOTY bullshit you'll hate it.

If you're the type who likes experimenting, finding the method that best works against a certain enemy, seriously analyzing every encounter then you'll love it.

I automatically think anyone talking shit about The Witcher 3 is a brainlet, every reviewer who had a negative opinion of it showed DSP tier footage of them playing the game horribly and poorly.

If you're shit at games you'll hate it, the easy difficulties feel too lenient, but the harder ones actually expect you to know when to dodge, when to roll, when to block, when to counterattack and the differences between all four, if you're expecting some PRESS X TO WIN you're gonna have a bad time unless you constrict yourself to some reddit tier "Can I play the big boy game, daddy?" easymode decoction exploit.

It's good, but some people are just too shit at games to like it.
>>
>>376574701
thats not limits, he is saying use all your tools.
Witcher combat on death march is actually challenging, it's just memed that you can spam buttons and win, even low level enemies will rek you on death march if you don't know how to combat them
>>
>>376572806
Finished main quest line with a bit of side questing in about 80 hours. You can probably expect double that.
>>
>>376571846
personally alchemy made me feel more like a witcher, bombs, potions, etc.
you become more aware of monsters weaknesses and use oils and bombs accordingly, instead of just hulking your way through everything. the combat is easy as fuck, alchemy just makes it slightly more engaging
>>
>>376574924
>>376574970
>>376575087
Then it's the game's fault for not making you use all your tools. It's a casualization of the series and the game suffers for that, and I can't believe you people are defending it.
>>
It's pretty good but as other anons have said it gets repetitive. I personally put 30-odd hours into it over four days and then had to take a break, as it was too immersive and long. There are plenty of minor flaws (A lot of NPC's repeat 1 line of dialogue, textures failed to load, animation bugs, the occasional crash etc) but its one of the best RPGs so far this gen. Just be sure to give the game a couple hours to grow on you
>>
>>376575087
for real, its a meme that you can just spam quen, that shit doesn't work with enemies like gouls and neckers that attack fast and in packs. It can be quite difficult, and different enemies require a different approach
>>
>>376575495

thats fair. i like that they included the potion of clearance because i think its more effective after you have developed a play style and can rebuild.
>>
>>376575775
actually the alchemy tree makes you pretty much unstoppable if you invest
>>
>>376575927
This is the biggest problem with WRPG. You never feel a tangible sense of progression. All the skills you unlock are just things that makes a number go higher. You could level up five or six times and still be using the same skills you were before that. In JRPG they give you constant new abilities and skills so you feel a tangible sense of growth. In a lot of WRPG, it's all "attack does five percent more damage," or "can use an additional potion," with only a few new skills peppered in.
>>
>>376576110
I gotta couple clearance potions so ill give the alchemist build a try
>>
>all these people recommending Alchemy builds

It's the most boring skill tree out of the three. Nothing but passives as far as the eye can see. Enjoy micromanaging in the menu more than you actually fight.

To be fair though, all of the trees are pretty fucking boring, with the exception maybe being Signs. You at least get two new abilities with the combat tree.

Alchemy is only for Death March play throughs. Other than that, it's boring and unnecessary.
>>
>>376576251
>implying anything other than death march should be played
>>
>>376576251
I platinumed it and pretty much never touched alchemy. And yes, I did just spam the shield spell and dodged a lot. And no, I rarely ever used potion or oil. The game is just, at its core, not very challenging.
>>
>put points into fast attack
>get whirlwind

>>
>>376576146
i'm not sure you can whole hardheartedly apply that to this game. your build absolutely changes the way you play and you do get abilities that modify or change pre-existing ones

>>
>>376576251
i mean, death march with this game is almost required to get any sense of "oh fuck", and even then it's rare. you can just play whatever you think is the most fun for you. and bombs and micromanaging are pretty fun for some people and kind of make the combat more engaging

Follow le red footsteps for every mission. Not to mention the game feels so cheap. Lots of bugs and in-engine cutscenes are full of fucky lighting and low res textures.

Graphics are above average for an open world game. Writing is alright but there are times where the writing can shit the bed (Dijkstra is the best example of this) but for the most part its not bad for a video game. Combat isnt as bad as some people say in my opinion.

Honestly just play on normal difficulty and invest in the red path. Dont go around the whole map trying to 100% the game like an autist, also I would just ignore any side mission you get from the billboard postings. The character driven side missions are much better but skip the "Reason of State" side mission. Its a really important one but they went full retard on it so just dont bother with Dijkstra.

The inventory is a mess too (even after the patch that reworked it). Too much garbage, too much materials, too much weapons, armors and the other crap you can craft but will never do that.
The game has flaws but the positive sides are way too good though. Characters, quests, story, details, graphics, music, style, etc. Combat can be pretty satisfying too, I really liked finishing moves with Geralt butchering people and cutting them in pieces.

buy and win from merchants, win from special npcs

Chances are you'll have a good time with it if you're not a contrarian and don't have unreasonably high expectations.
>>
Is this Complete Edition PS4 PRO updated?
>>
>>376590604
You win them by playing against other people. Once you have dosh to spare, it's a good time to buy some from merchants though.

i grabbed every merchant card asap and never had problems with coin, you end up with more than you can spend very quickly

at least grab the foltest clear weather card from the white orchard inn if you haven't already

The Witcher 2 is really good too. You should start there first.

TW3 is a masterpiece though.

One of the games that just slap you in the face with detail. There's an ungodly amount of detail in that game. Even quests that aren't even real quest, more often than not, have background info provided as letters or an NPC standing around.
Nothing in this game feels like they just shat it out, like it does in Bethesda games. Everything feels like its deliberately planted. Many side quests have better stories and design than some games' main quests.
And it has the best world design that videogames managed to come up with so far. It really is "life like".

The only thing that puts a damper on it, is the weird combat system. Its not "bad" per se, but it feels off. It feels like you're just slashing through the air, hitting enemies by accident, rather than delivering precise blows, like in other games. Maybe the size can also be a negative, depending on who you ask though. Because its huge. This could get tedious for some people.

>absolutely love Gwent
>by the time I went through Skellige my deck got so op that it took a lot of the fun out
Still in Skellige. Do they do a bit more with Gwent later on, or at least in the DLC that makes it more interesting again? I still love Gwent, but its just so one sided by now

Game of the decade.

Remember to play on deathmarch difficulty. Its really the only way the game should be played, forced you to utilise all mechanics and gives the game a great learning curve. My last playthrough i think i only died 5 or 6 times.
>>
>>376591640
the blood and wine adds a skellige deck which is a challenge to use (and you have to use it in a tournament)
>>
>>376570031
One of my all time favorite games. Enjoy.
>>
>>376575283
I know you're baiting but how is the game supposed to "make you use them" other than killing you over and over if you don't
>>
>>376592085
Okay that sounds nice.
>>376592040
And consider this OP. It might feel like shit at the beginning, but the game really is quite easy. All it takes to make even DM difficulty manageable, is to learn the basic combat mechanics.
I started on hard, because I didn't like the "replenish health while meditating" bit. But now I'm in Skellige and I switched to DM because it got too easy as well.
>>
So if i do every side quest will i over level too much? Should i just concentrate on main missions? Can i go back once i beat the game to do all side stuff?
>>
Shit gameplay and pretty grafix, your average western game
You should have gotten Dragon's Dogma instead
>>
>>376592631
Nah, overleveling is not really an issue, atleast ive never had an issue with it. Go with the flow of the game, do what comes up or just what you want to do. Have a great time, i really wish i could play it like it was new
>>
>>376570031
If you dig it, prepare to easily spend 100 hours on it
>>
>>376592631
>So if i do every side quest will i over level too much?
Yes. Which is why its adviced to play on the harder difficulties, to at least counter that effect.
>Should i just concentrate on main missions?
Hell no. But take a look at the level of the current main mission and try not to get carried away while doing side missions.
In the Novigrad area alone, you can do side missions taking you from level 10 all the way to 30, while the main story is still lvl 11.
I was lvl 20 when I went moved on from Novigrad to follow a lvl 16 main quest.

Tried playing this game several times but my shit pc made it not fun, got a 1080ti now and damn what a beautiful game, gonna take my time with it too since the side quest is fun too.
>>
>>376592631
if you are 5 levels over the "recommended level", it gives you fuck all exp
if you far below it, you get heaps

when i played new game plus on death march, i did only the main quest line, started over 5 levels below the recommended level and finished around equal to it
>>
>>376592965
>new game plus
I fucking love this feature in games.
How does it work in this one? I assume you keep your level and your gear.
>>
>>376592631

Level requirements vary wildly for quests in pretty much all areas of the game. You're going to be underleveled for some and overleveled for others. That's just how it is.
>>
>>376593058
>I assume you keep your level and your gear.
yes, and the level of enemies rises as well to whatever you are
if you start a new game plus at level 30, the first beast you come across will be round level 32

yeah it just brings everything up to your level so lowbie stuff is still enjoyable and not a push over, works well desu

there was one bug with rats where i had to disable it for 5 seconds but other than that i'd recommend it, also play on death march otherwise it ends up way too easy
>>

b. you are even more of a faggot for being a consoletard

c. i get the feeling you aren't the kind of guy that would like this game. although it is great
