How's your game going /v/?
Pretty good, got all the UI done, just tweaking spinning mechanic to make sure it's ((fun)) and has ((feedback))
Is it bad to make a game with allegro? I notice a lot of the tutorials for it are really old which makes me think it doesn't get many updates, and it also doesn't seem that powerful. I'm just making a simple platformer with metroid-style level layout (i.e., levels occupying a global grid) but I wonder if there are better tools I could be using.
>>376568014
>allegro
What year is it
Added a second enemy class, which is faster and can dodge.
Also I guess just general progress with level design, move implementation, effects, yadda yadda blah blah.
webm quality is terrible
Making a game about fighting viruses in your mom's computer and I can't decide if I want to do a traditional UI or have the UI be separate ingame windows that clutter up the screen
Going pretty good.
Working on the third shot type and a bunch of tweaks and feature requests from demo day.
>>376568097
That's what I was worried about, it seems like it's completely out of use these days.
It's dead. It's fucking dead and I give up.
working on my crab walk animation. what a pain in the ass.
>>376568187
Nice. Never give up.
>>376570059
I believe in you, and I believe in your crab
>>376570059
The crab body should really move a little bit while it walks
What would be the best engine for a Tactical RPG
like Fire Emblem or Final Fantasy Tactics
>>376570585
thank you, friend.
>>376570706
yeah, that's what i'm working on right now. the eyes will bounce a bit as well.
>>376567560
Still on concept art stage. I really should be working on the engine.
>>376570724
pls respond
>>376571462
>2d graphics

>3d graphics
unity
there you go
'best' is also meaningless in this case
>>376567560
Working on redesigning the pause menu. I take forever when it comes to art related things.
Got enemies in that can be solid to Anubis.
>>376568187
how many combos have you created so far?
looking great
>>376570059
blender master race!
that animation is quite easy if you used IK for the legs... you did use IK didn't you?
>>376569849
I don't really like these kinds of games, but this doesn't look too bad
Semi-Related, in that I finally finished up a commission, which asked me to write a sega genesis-style track based off of Shining Force:
https://soundcloud.com/ec2151/shining-force-suite-the-return-of-the-shining-force-ym2612-sn76489
With this finished up and payment received, I can devote more time into my other project, the shmoop game, working on music/sound with another artist (we've been talking about where to take the sound design from here).
>>376568953
looks good! I've been meaning to add a few thoughts to the general email chain. In general we've been lucky to get such good feedback from around the web. One thing I'll need to ask you is the best way around GM's audio compression.
I haven't devved a lot today. I should be working on variable hitstun.
>>376568014
They're old because nobody has bothered to do new ones. Just forget about tutorials and read the documentation plus some example code.
>>376572628
i totally didn't. i think i will add some for the legs and re-do the animation.
>>376571462
Srpg studio
Made a new part of this map
What would be a good game to do for 2d side scrolling action? Planning to make pixel graphics, which type would be the best for high paced action, and a bit of emotion shown? Sorry if my question is retarded, I am pretty new to game development.
>>376573136
Goodness...

made a forest theme
>>376573770
I would probably recommend checking out Construct 1 or 2, since it is pretty newb-friendly. They can do just about all you want in the realm of 2D, though moving out of its basic commands will require dicking around with tutorials.
>>376573903
Alright, thank you! would you suggest 1 or 2?
>>376573849
I like the artistic style of your game
>>376573849
make the trees leafier or something so they're not just green blobs.
>>376574014
If you are just messing around and wanting to learn, learning 2 is a bit easier as it is actively supported, however, its free demo doesn't run the full monty of features. C1 is freeware but not supported. I would say either, but I would wager that C2 is easier to learn and understand as it is a bit more streamlined.
t. old C1 user from years back
>>376575307
Cool. I know it is a stupid question, but would i be able to pull off flinthook level sprite art on construct 2 or lower, is there a limit?
he die of poison
im cry
>>376571462
Just about any engine.
Objects are moving in a fixed grid with fixed variables without real physics or collisions. It's all assets and math and the are all independent of each other.
Actually, fuck you! That should be relatively easy to make!
>>376575390
more than possible with either, though Construct 2 will only let you program 100 "events" or lines of code in the free demo, whereas this limitation does not exist with the older C1.
>>376570724
man, i'm thinking about learning to make something like that too
i hope that love2d and the lua language can do what i need
How many of you anons do rubber dedugging?
What are your experiences with it?
>>376573849
Fellow musicbro here, if you ever need music contact me at: [email protected]
>>376567560
Made an idle animation this week, taking suggestions. The character is supposed to be a ghost, hoping to make a metroidvania.
>>376577601
looks kind of sexy but is it pooping sperm?
Stuff
>>376578252
fuck yeah scribble paper mario
>>376567560
Haven't worked on it today.
>>376578252
very good progress on getting an engine up and running.
>>376576986
I have a friend who knows absolutely nothing about game development that I talk though issues with somtimes.
It leads to a lot of my variables being named stuff like 'iswhomst'
>>376578252
the shitty art makes me like this for some reason
>>376569849
no fuck you finish this
>>376567560
Gave up as soon as I started animating the one sprite that I made. I realized I didn't know how to animate or keep things consistent, so I'm going back to square one and learning how to draw/sprite and what not.I'll never make the lewd game I wanted at this rate.
>>376578462
It's dead anon
I give up on gamedev
>>376578443
The aliased 3d is what gets me. Jaggies are underrated.
>>376568187
>its treason then

>Pixelart
>>376578252
>another Paper Mario clone
>>376578808
I remember you giving up before and coming back so see you next time maybe
>>376579026I don't have any fucking ideas on what to make and I can't draw
Been using Unity2d for a few weeks now. Havent played around with GameMaker. Is it any good?
>>376579079
what were your plans anon
>>376579079
I think it looks really cool anon, you should take a break to come up with an idea and finish it. Yours is one of the better looking ones in the thread.
>can't even be assed to sit down and make pong in game maker
I'll never make a game, all I fucking do is idea guy
>>376568187
No feeling of impact. The enemies need to spasm hard when theyre hit and maybe shake violently. Or you could add screenshake or a 1 frame delay for every hit like platinum games do.
>>376579742
the cancer killing videogames
>>376569849
Maybe you could create a clone of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
I'm fucking KILLING itI don't even have an idea yet.
>>376579742
>a 1 frame delay for every hit like platinum games do.
Every action title that doesn't suck balls do that since final fight I think.
>>376569669
Hey, PsstTry Love2D, less low level stuff, more game making without being braindead like gamemaker or RPG Maker
Still learning unity. It's pretty good. I got a little sphere flying around, it's eventually going to be swimming since I'm making pic related as a practice game.
>>376567560
the only thing i'm smart enough to make is point and clicks and rpg maker games.
>>376567560
>>376583885
tried making a video game "demake" of Dark Souls called "Lordran Souls" by recreating the map in a 2d jrpg environment using jrpg maker, but i hate the turn based combat system, i'm trying to figure out a way to jig it to make the combat like legend of zelda instead of just random encounters/turn based.
>>376583993
>>376583885
i tried making something a bit biggr on unity but it fried my small laptop.
also the reason i chose to do a video game "demake" of an existing game rather than come up with something original is cause i suck at story and character design.
>>376583879
>people still think one shot johnny is a superior glass canon build to Ether Rex
Been rebalancing the game from the demo's feedback. I think I've got the difficulty right where I want it at. Not too hard nor too difficult.
>>376584770
God speed you glorious fuck
>>376571462
Not UnrealEngine that's for sure. Some guy on Reddit was struggling with on a 2d game.

What's the best way to get into unity?
>>376586118
Open it
>>376572450
But can I put my dick in it?
>>376567560
Fucking fantastic. Going hard for a demo.
It's a game where you play a standing wall of cannons and you fire them.
>>376568187
This looks pretty nice.
What's the name of your game and what engine?
>>376587384
Do not.
Made this animation a few days ago, pretty proud of it
>>376586118
It comes with a bunch of built in tutorials
>>376587770
Pretty.nice.
Making a tool with GM:Studio. Just finished interface things like textboxes, buttons, and scrollbars. Tomorrow starting my save and load txt scripts. Then have to work on making all the buttons actually function. Feel like I spent 3 weeks dicking around making the bullshit that comes automatic in a visual basic project and now I actually have to make the project.
>>376578252
Ahhhhhhhhh this looks amazing, what engine are you using?
I really want to make a papermario styled game that's not paper mario.
