The vast majority of children at my school didn't play YGO by the rules. It shook the foundations of our YGO scene when a couple kids learned the actual rules and how tribute summons work or whatever.

Yeah, but I never won a badge for real (just got given one of the extras at the end of the season out of sympathy) because the only ones playing were older kids that were actually good at the game. Then hit up TRU on Sat. earlier in the day. They make it out to be an event, but it isn't really at the stores I've been at. Maybe some stores, the kids actually sit around and trade, But my stores were a couple of tables where you can grab the card(s), grab some posters, stickers, coloring sheets, booklets, etc. and another of TCG products and the video games. They did have 3DS demo units, so OP's tweet isn't completely off.

The last one I went to was this re-release set, so there were enough "adult collectors" I didn't feel awkward there, but if you do, it's very quick to get in and out.

I wasn't worried about feeling awkward. I just want to make sure I get everything. I'm not sure how the Pokemon crowd is in my area post Pokemon Go. The Nintendo crowd is light, no one cares about the Switch or Amiibo around here but I haven't gone to any events since ORAS release to make sure I got my Charizard plush.
