Wii was Nintendo's best selling console at the time and most of the games were absolute crap for it.

Still Zelda peaks my interest for an exclusive then anything that's on the PS4 and Xbone, but buying a three hundred dollar console for one game is stupid.

I love the climb-anything mechanics and large amount of weapons to get(even though theres like 4 weapon types) and the game really is good at encouraging you to explore, but fuck, after playing it and beating it, I just... didn't feel like it was worth the time put in. Lets not forget the technical issues and loading.

Splatoon has a whole plethora of issues not related to the gamepad, like the horrific implementation of the online infrastructure, the disgusting lack of a singleplayer (unless you count the half-asses tutorial they threw out there which lasts 2 hours at most) or the fact that the game is shallow and shipped with no content whatsoever, to the point where they had to gradually ship the rest of the game out under the guise of "free DLC".

I'd rather play Gone Home than touch that abomination ever again.

Splatoon had unused 3 face buttons, easily mappable for jumping to teammates

It couldve also had an onscreen map option.

The sequel even gives you the option to display the map of the top screen.

This erases the need to look down from the screen onto the map when now you dont need to pry your eyes from the action.

As hardware, it's too weak as a home console and too unwieldy as a handheld. So what matters then is the games, and it doesn't have enough games yet I want that I can't play on my 3DS, Wii U, Vita, or PS4. And even if I wanted one already, it's not like I can find one in the shops and I'm not going to buy a console on the aftermarket if I can avoid it.

The only good looking games are BotW, Splatoon 2 and SM:O and it's nowhere near worth $500 just to play those. Plus the console itself looks like garbage, and I don't want to support Nintendo going full-blown Apple.
