This is fucking bullshit, there are far buggier games than Prey.

There's no way in fuck it deserves to have its score slashed in half because of it.

What you're supposed to do is fucking deal with it, reload a save if necessary, and beat the game. You fucking review it as normal, give it a, say, 8/10, subtract a point for the bug making it a 7, and then warn people to delay buying until the game is fixed. But lazily slapping on a fucking 4?

No way in hell this isn't some kind of petty retribution against Bethesda. They're pissy they didn't get a review copy, and thus, they're pissy they don't get as much ad-bucks on their website because they weren't first out the door. The bug delayed a proper review even further, possibly making it so that they'd have to wait ANOTHER day to get it out the door, so they just got pissed off, decided not to even bother beating it, and just figured they'd fuck up the score.

That's what happened here. They may have even deliberately given it a bad score to drive traffic to their review and thus compensate for their viewcount since they didn't get a review copy.

That's definitely a fair score if the game has game-breaking bugs, but it's not at all consistent with their other reviews. I mean they gave new Vegas a good review and that might be one of the buggiest games I've ever played. They gave VLR a good review and that game deleted your progress if you saved in a certain room. I had to replay 30 hours of content just because I saved in a puzzle room.

I love this game, but it has hard-crashed my PC to the blue screen with the ":(" on it 8 or 9 times now. I save constantly just in case, but it seems to be about a 15-20% chance when transitioning between areas of the station.

To be fair, nobody should have to put up with truly game breaking bugs. Having a deathclaw stuck in a wall is one thing, but corrupted saves making the game unplayable and wiping your progress shouldn't be tolerated and the score should reflect that.

Now with that said, the bug has already been fixed. Moreso, any saves that were corrupted have been fixed as well. In fact, the fix might have even been out BEFORE the review was released. While games with bugs should be called on their bullshit, its not fair to judge a game based on fixed bugs.

What is up with Arkane and gamebreaking bugs? There's an unpatched bug in the PC version of Dishonored that I ALWAYS run into when I try to play it. In the first mission, after you sneak into the museum/palace and have to eaves drop in on a conversation with one of your targets, some game breaking bug always happens and the level becomes impossible to beat.

It's a shame because they usually have very impressive lore/world building and interesting games, but they can't seem to fix their most fatal stuff in QA/testing.

If a publisher wants to release a broken, buggy game that's on them, reviewers should not make excuses for a game and assumptions that errors will be fixed.

I don't what IGN has done to bethesda specifically to not make them hand out early copies but it makes sense that they did it to Kotaku tho'. After all they were the ones that leaked the ending to Fallout 4 for no reason as well as their journos would endlessly hound the developers about irrelevant shit and trying to start pointless controversies.

All in all the review just seems to have came out at a very unlucky time. The only fair thing to is for IGN to re-review the game again so they can give it a proper score now that it's fixed.

It's not even regular stupidity, it's some advanced near-intentional shit. People who never play video games would have figured this shit out. Using the A:I reviewer as an example again; this guy somehow missed all the preview material talking about the alien and how it adapts. He didn't consider changing his tactics once; someone who's never played a fucking video game in their entire lives would have thought "this isn't working, what if I try another strategy?", but not this guy. He insists that hiding in the lockers is the way to go despite dying literally a hundred times from doing so, then he calls the game's AI frustrating because it won't tolerate a one trick pony.

In the case of Alien Isolation, they just gave that review to the absolute wrong person (Ryan McCaffery). He literally only plays COD, Halo, Destiny and Nintendo stuff. His reviews of other games have been reasonable. Dan Stapleton on the other hand has no fucking excuse. Literally every game he has ever reviewed he has struggled with in some way or whined about the difficulty. He gave DoW 3 a good review saying It's the best RTS in years but even still bitched about "complexity" and said the AI in the campaign was too hard. He's fucking worthless. My patience with him is gone, he's been there for many years as basically their only PC reviewer and he has fucked up like this almost every single time. As a patron of the site, I'm done putting up with it. They need to fire him, he shouldn't be doing this for a living.

Oblivion completely breaks animations a number of hours in and requires the unofficial patch to avoid this. Not fixed in console versions and requires copying the save over to PC and running a fanmade tool on it.
There are NPCs that are poorly pathed like a guy in Chorrol who is scheduled to walk on a bridge that was removed before release so he will fall to his death if the player is there at the right time of day. Oblivion is poorly coded and has a lot of potential divide by zero errors that can cause seemingly random CTDs and if you dont crash it will corrupt your next save.

Skyrim has several save destroying bugs that were never patched. If you kept on visiting an area with nirnroot but never picked it the nirnroot grow would grow every single time you enter the area and not disappear if you picked it.

Worst of all, in all TES and Fallout games NPCs can straight up disappear, and youll have to use the console to move them to you. If youre on console youre fucked and have to drop the main quest.

I have completed the game on PS4 no probs. It has an issue with the controller deadzone drifting constantly. I reported it, they gave the usual automated response "power off PS4 reinstall game" bullshit etc. I replied, showed them links to others having the issue and youtube vids, they said devs are aware and working on it. all within a few hours.
Customer service for zenimax has always been pretty good from my experience with ESO at launch.

IGN are massive faggots anyway. Not that i'm shilling for the game or am a bethesda fanboy, but this game is a great game, well made and doesn't deserve that rating because some dumb fuck is PC illiterate.

If it was on console I'd understand, but with PC it's inevitable that sometimes there are going to be hardware / software / driver etc issues that might impede some people. This has been the case for DECADES. PC Gamers are aware how difficult it is to get software to run the same on each pc given the immeasurable combination of OS, hardware, etc. When I read a review I'm reading a review to know if the game is worth my money. It not working on the reviewer's PC isn't relevant to me at all because it does fuckin happen sometimes with this platform.

He never tried it on another PC and even though Arkane sent him working save files for where he was at before he didn't bother to keep playing. It's a vendetta score, pure and simple. Probably partly out of entitlement because they weren't given an early copy.
