Boring.

Revenge of the 20hr single player FPS genre.
>>
The closest we'll get to playing System Shock 3 anytime soon.
>>
6/10 - Mediocre
>>
>>376560132

please stop spewing this shit
>>
>>376560250
why? it's true
>>
>>376559972
It's the most fun I've had with a game in the last 2-3 years 8-9/10
>>
>>376559972
GOTY so far, no joke. But it will probably be usurped by Tekken 7 since that will have a lot more replay value overall.
>>
>>376560580
Is it better than DOOM?
>>
>>376559972
Ah, the most recent system shock/deus ex/thief thingamajig. After the slightly disappointing DX3, I'm looking forward to something that can fill the void in my heart. Between this and Dishonored 2 (patched), which is better?
>>
>>376562736
I wouldn't say it's better. Doom is a very good linear action oriented shooter, whereas Prey is more of a slow paced survival horror type game so I don't think it's fair to compare.
Personally I think that the gameplay of Prey has a bit more depth and complexity compared to Doom which is something I appreciate.
Play the Demo before you buy it
>>
>>376559972
I wouldn't know. I don't even pirate normie garbage juice.

Best game this year.
>>
Really fun exploring, mediocre combat, dumpster fire ending. 7/10 pretty fun 20 hour ride.
>>
>>376559972
GOTY so far for me.

I had this itch for a Shock game since Bio2, and its finally here. All around fucking great.
Good level design, reminds me of the first 1/2 of DarkSouls, interesting side objectives that make you want to explore Talos, and good enough depth in combat/upgrade system.

Downsides is that sound design is fucking awful and Combat can be clunky for some.
>>
>>376564467
>still dark except for my flashlight
I didn't even know the flashlight was a thing until sometime after I did that section. I had to use the fucking Psychoscope which emits a tiny blue, but faint, light to navigate while only being able to see in the small circle.
>>
>>376564932
But the sound design is one of its strengths.
>>
Enjoying it so far, like six hours in. Melee combat was meh until I got the slo-mo.
What's the most ---fun--- neuromod I should go for?
>>
>>376564961
I had a similar embarrassment. I didn't know it was possible to speed up in the EVA segments. I thought 1.49 m/s was the max speed for my entire first play through.
So imagine my disappointment when I had to travel like 400 meters to that abandoned shuttle

I'm doing a second play through on the hardest difficulty and the food upgrade has been pretty useful
>>
>>376559972
It's System Shock 2 if you removed the atmosphere, interesting characters, creepy enemy designs, environmental storytelling, and overall horror.

If you would enjoy a mod for SS2 that replaced all character models with beige cubes and the audio logs with white noise but otherwise left everything intact, this is the game for you.

wew lad literally my opinion of the game. Was feeling a light-9 up until the dumpster fire ending. 25 hours of scifi kino literally ruined in five minutes. Didn't think it was possible desu.
>>
its the actual spiritual successor to system shock 2, not bioshit

9/10, its tied with nier with current GOTY
>>
>>376566058
That stops being rage inducing when you realize that due to inflation that plate sold for $11,380 and if the totem were sold in 52 it would have only been $163.
>>
>>376564904
I really liked the buildup to the ending and the idea that I'd have multiple choices on how to end the game. Then the game ended and I reloaded the save and finished it another way and nothing changed.

The thing that really grinds my gears is no new game+ mode. that's inexcusable in 2017
>>
1. Are you limited to 2 weapons at a time?
2.Does health automatically regenerate?
3.Is the level design linear or open-ended?
>>
>>376566345
its rage-inducing that the value of the totem is >0
>>
>>376566442
>1. Are you limited to 2 weapons at a time?
block based inventory system. You can have all the weapons in the game at the same time
>2.Does health automatically regenerate?
no
>3.Is the level design linear or open-ended?
semi linear. Some areas can only be accessed through others or as part of the main story
>>
>>376566442
1:1-0 + weapon wheel. if it fits in your inventory, you can keep it with you.
2:regens to 20 at 100 up to 50 when you have 300 hp otherwise health kits/food you find around the station
3: one of the biggest strengths in the game is being able to tackle the levels in a ton of different ways depending on what skills if any you have.

Ending was okay. You're actually playing as Morgan, he was turned into a typhon/human hybrid due to all the neural mod testing.
Alex begins to notice Morgan is slipping and put him through a collection of real events and memories that Morgan experienced before the game takes place.
Canon ending is continuing experimentation and shipping neural mods to earth, thus starting a high demand and the outbreak.
Just kidding
>>
>>376567386
Fuck off, you falseflagging shitposter. Arkane has never once made a bad game.
>>
>>376567419
I thought the ending implied you were just some random typhon that was embedded with human shit to teach him empathy, not Morgan himself.
>>

>>
>>376567534

I was just making shit up. The random typhon just seem far to convenient and simple to me, but it was probably a simple mimic. If you actually take Alex's escape part he says. "this isn't the one" and they kill you.
>>
>>376567589
i liked the main menu music and the music that comes out of speakers you turn on. that ending music and the one by the girl in the club assaulted my ears honestly. i would not rank music as a strong suit in this game.
>>
>>376567419
>we put what you can do into us
>put what we can do into you
clearly not Morgan, however the only canon choice is that Morgan obviously used the nulwave device and saved the station
>>

What the fuck, m8? That shit was good.
>>
>>376567534
That's what it was. I thought it was a decent enough ending; I just want to know what the real Morgan did and if he's actually alive. Almost everything we saw in the simulation WAS real at one point, it wasn't really fabrication. It's a bit grating, but I hope the DLC will answer some of these questions. Was Morgan as empathetic as the typhon-with-human-mirror-neurons might've become?

>>376567732
Wouldn't have been a mimic, but a Phantom. Might've been the phantom of Morgan himself even, but I think they'd have made a point of telling us that. It's what I'd have prefered, anyway.
>>
please respond guys
>>376567405
>>
>>376567919
not even memeing, i had to turn my music down to get through it. not my style at all. but i did forget about "everything is going to be ok" that was pretty great too.
>>
>>376567829
Morgan was too far gone into alien territory and was becoming more like them, that's why they put WE(humanity) into YOU(Morgan) to give him back what he lost during the continued experiments that take place after dealing with the typhon. In the ending Alex is older and more rough looking so it's been some time since the event on Talos-1.
>>
>>376567405
get combat focus asap. that, hacking and leverage makes your life considerably easier. also dont forget to just fucking run sometimes

>>376568091

>>
>>376568358

I can think of like maybe 3 other games that have a soundtrack that's even remotely similar. Generic does not mean "I don't like it"
>>
>>376564728
>Prey 2 cancelled
>Starwars 1313 cancelled

future lawbringer NEVER EVER
>>
>>376568091
the biggest hole in that theory is the escape pod ending. its not typhon-morgan. its a random shade being tested on.
>>
>>376568258
Well, it's just a theory. Another things that got me was at the end Alex said, "We're gonna shake things up. Like old time.". Would he actually say that to a random alien?
>>
>>376560250
It's true though
>>
>>376568410
>>376568459

The music is bland, generic and uninteresting. The worst examples the Synthwave genre has to offer. I wouldn't show it to anybody.
>>
>>376560250
It's true
>>
>>376568484
Because the Alien would have memories of them shaking it up
>>
>>376568468
Yea, but the options in the sim were the same options the real Morgan had though during the Talos-1 incident. Their reason was that if Morgan was still himself he'd go the same route as his old self, and if he wasn't he'd take the easy way out of do the wrong things like kill all the humans. It was all part of the test.
>>
>>376568351
both of those are just garbage to me. the tempo, the vocals, the tone choices, just everything about it does not work for me. getting that vocal sample was torture.
>>
>>376559972
4/10
>>
>>376567732
>If you actually take Alex's escape part he says. "this isn't the one" and they kill you.
This confused the fuck out of me until I actually beat the game, then it all made sense.
>>
>>376568816
It wasn't just that. It was about teaching the typhon empathy; implanting it with mirror-neurons that make it possible in the first place, then teaching it empathy through experience (because it's largely something you have to acquire). Morgan himself is heard talking about this in logs you find in the game, even mentions doing it through simulations with Alex being the doubtful one.
>>
Mediocre title that took an interesting game premise and turned it into another boring "horror" shooter.
>>
>>376568585
Then he would have said "Let's shake things up". Like "old times" implies they have personal history together, simply experiencing the memories would not give them any attachment.
>>
>>376567589
Loved the music, just wish there was more of it. Sort of reminded me of, surprise surprise, System Shock's music.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-3u9vO9UUE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bL7I_eWryI
>>
>>376569007
For me it kind of sealed the deal. The simulation theme, the talk of mirror-neurons, the logs of Morgan and his colleagues talking about teaching the typhon empathy by reversing the neuromods and implanting humanity into the typhons and not vice versa. The idea was further reinforced by the Looking Glass goggles that Calvino was working on in his quarters aswell as the other blackout scenes in which they refer to an "it", like when you blast yourself out of Deep Storage.

I quite liked it; it's the "it was a simulation!" plot twist coupled with the idea that it all actually happened, and that there was a serious goal in mind that will matter in the future (assuming we ever get a sequel).
>>
>>376569210
They Typhon had those memories implanted. It would be as real as any skill anyone acquired through a neuromod. for instance, the audiologs of the people talking about the musical neuromods they took
>>
>>376569210
He says the exact same quote in the simulation at the start of the game. It's a callback to their first meeting.
>>
>>376559972

>>
>>376566058
are you fucking stupid
>>
>>376565230

>>
So what was Morgan trying to accomplish by juicing himself so heavily with neuromods? Why didn't the just use one of the "volunteers" ?
>>

>>
>>376566740
You should be a spindoctor. I feel pretty good about that retarded Sonic totem now (and I just entered this thread to talk about Prey).
>>
>>376569520
Because Morgan was a reliable person with the project's best interest in mind. They no doubt tried mods on the volunteers, but only to see if they were dangerous to the user himself.
>>

two to three playthroughs depending on how many shits you give about seeing the ending permutations without looking them up on youtube. a likely mixed first run, once human only not killing anyone/saving everyone, and one typhon only killing every human. but once you fully explore the station and know where almost everything is it kind of loses its magic so one playthrough is just as likely.

It's a different kind of spook, Anon.

There are a few scripted jumpscares, but the anxiety from this game comes from being so weak compared to the Ayys and constantly having to manage your resources and also being constantly on the lookout for objects that don't belong there.

It's like Bioshock. It's more spooky in the beginning because you don't have much shit (the beginning places are also designed to be more spooky) but as your power level increases the spookiness decreases. I don't recalle being spooked much by half of the game. Just don't touch it.[/spoilers]

>>
>>376572227
>Piss poor gunplay
Upgrade your shotgun and git gud at sneaking
>Lazy level design
It was designed as a living space first, game play was a secondary consideration. I have to admit, for a stealth game I found places to hide a little scarce in areas, but it's a good design philosophy
>Repetitive enemy types
Mimics, Telepaths, Technopaths, Phantoms, operators and the nightmare. All of them require drastically different strategies to take on effectively. Even the four phantom classes, while granted they are just pallet swaps, need different strategies. (Or psyshock and a shotgun, psyshock breaks the game).
>The ending
I can see why people don't like it, but as far as "it was a dream" endings go, it is foreshadowed and is supported by the overall themes of injecting alien material into your system to mess with your brain.

>>
>>376574059
Yeah exactly. But the Nightmare was easily avoidable for me. It does seem to spawn depending on how much alien powers you take? Cause I've had anons talking about encountering Nightmares a lot more frequent while I only ever encountered 2 (and 1 wasn't near my destination)?
>>376574138
I didn't say the latter half was bad, on the contrary. The Dahl thing didn't actually bother me until /v/ pointed out it was (aptly so) padding. But it gave me a cool opportunity to do shit with this Dahl guy so it balanced out.
>>
>>376574506
>Injecting your brain with alien matter that we don't fully understand

What did you expect?
>>
>>376574517
Yeah, the more Typhon Neuromods you install the more you encounter Nightmares.

I found one pretty much every room I went too after the Arboretum
>>
>>376574517
It literally spawns when you install more neuromods, especially alien ones. If you are totally human, you will get enough random chances to get it from all the mods you get. I believe, at least once, is forced spawn.

But if you add like 1-3 alien powers at once, you can have one spawn in the next room.

>mfw first one that spawned didn't see me and I just tossed recyclers at it until it died.
>>
>>376574517
In about halfway through on the highest difficulty doing a human only run, and I've encountered about 8 nightmares so far. I'm not sure what causes them to spawn since my first playthrough was mixed also on the same difficulty and I got like 2 or 3 max.

The gunplay is weaker, abilities are weaker, enemy variety in Bioshock is almost nonexistant, level design is so objectively worse you're trolling if you think otherwise, and so many more.

The only things I'd agree Bioshock did better are story, and maybe setting, but setting is purely subjective.

it's on a transcribe somewhere in that area, just search everything, all bodies and emails.

>blast and crash through the Yellow Tulip
>best action scene in the game so far
>open the storage closet
>two dead bodies, a lot of alcohol, and two guns
>don't even need to read the note, go from hype to sad
These people didn't deserve this
>>
Arkane will never recover from this even if it's a good game
>>
>>376572194
It is true. You're just a contrarian faggot.
>>
>>376580113
Shit senpai, what did the note say?

I just saw the scene, got hit with feels, and left.
>>
>>376580124
I don't know how this even got funding desu. The game is amazing, but nothing about it has anything close to mass appeal.
>>
>>376559972
Bought it. It's just like Deus Ex and System Shock. But...

Why do they force the Le Art Deco theme in every fucking game? I hate that shit. It's a cliche. It's not cool or interesting. Why not make a damn hardcore scifi setting? When did Le Art Deco become so cool it needs to be in every fucking game???

I still got 30 minutes to go for refund. Maybe I'll do it just because.

What do you think it said, man?

More or less

>tfw if you brute force the code the treasure gives you a debuff instead

They know that quest is bullshit and they just don't care
>>
>>376580275
Talos was supposed to be a luxurious as possible. Might as well have a nice place to to do science when fucking around with human evolution.

Overall I don't think the art is as strong as it could be though. Some character models look kinda fucked up.

Explain.

apparently if you don't actualy have the numbers from the quest and instead randomly input numbers until it works the implant it gives you reduces resource gains and lowers quality of loot from enemies when it's slotted. But that's just what i read somewhere I ain't got time to test that.
>>
>>376580791
FUCK.. Guess I'll just have to ignore it now.

Waiting for crack. What I've seen has convinced me it's a decent System Shock knock-off and probably worth my time but not my dosh.

Looks like one of those half-game shovelware greenlight abominations desu, genuinely (un)surprised there are people actually spending money on this.
>>
>>376580791
That honestly sounds like a better reward than the actual chipset you get.
>>

What do you actually get?

Game is broken, can't start a game. 0/10 so far.
>>
>>376581348
A chipset that gives you a stronger flashlight, faster crawl under things speed, and very slightly more fabrication yield.

>>376581581
At least it can be used for challenge runs or something. The other one is just useless. Even though getting it is still a fun quest.

I actually don't think you can lock your office door. Which makes me uncomfortable every time I go up there.

This, the game was fucking patched when the bug was found within like 3 days, the review actually came out the same day the patch did. Almost every Bethesda developed game has game breaking bugs, and yet they praise them regardless. Vidya "journalism" was a mistake.
