The story seemed interesting but the controls are unresponsive, all the detective vision tracking shit was really boring, and combat was dull and tedious. I'm the type of guy that prefers gameplay over story so it's not for me I guess.
>>
>>376552293
It's a good game, but the combat is garbage and it isn't even an RPG. It's also way to long. Many people say "the Witcher 3 is so big and awesome, it's so big that I never beat it." No, you didn't beat it because you didn't like it enough and you're afraid people on reddit will insult you for having a different opinion. I bet only a small percentage of people who got it have even beat it.

The fanbase praises it as the best game ever made and they say it was way ahead of its time, despite it not adding anything new to the genre or doing anything better than what other games have done in the past.

Plus the CD Projekt Red circlejerk is ridiculous. I got the game on release date and it had the shittiest performance of any game I've ever played on console and it seemed like they didn't even playtest it (just look through all of the post-release patch notes). Yet many reviews completely ignored it while other new games get shit on for glitches and bad performance.

basically it's the most overrated game in the history of gaming and it has a negative vibe because of that
>>

Not him, but Skyrim was a better RPG than Witcher 3.

They're both bad RPGs, but Skyrim was slightly less bad because it allowed you more room to actually role-play with your character and didn't have a voiced protagonist. If FO4 is bad because it has a voiced protagonist so is Witcher.

I played it for the first time a few months ago, the combat wasn't terrible exactly, but it was still a bit weird, I wouldn't exactly call it good, but it worked for the game. My bigger gripes were more with the level design, the first area was kind of boring, anything to do with swamps was pretty shitty. Still, it was overall an enjoyable game with the same great story and dialogue I've come to expect from the witcher series.
>>
>>376555076
Seriously one of the purest RPG experiences I've ever had outside of tabletop. Other games wish they had such a good crafting system and fuck them if they're trying to be half as clever. Even though I don't play any more, I've got nothing but good things to say about it.

I can also appreciate Michael Bay's films for his dedication to live explosions and genuine reactions from his actors as they're going off, but that doesn't mean the film is good. The substance in a game doesn't come from the story, it comes from the gameplay just as the substance in a film comes from pretty much everything that's not special effects.
>>
Every piece of gameplay was so heavily flawed its not even funny.
The loot system, open world design, economy, combat, enemy variety, moveset variety, quest design, basic movement controls - all riddled with flaws. The biggest offender is the quest design which is fucking INSULTING to the player.

Apart from that, the main quest is pretty horribly paced and isn't really that interesting at all. The only good antagonist in the game is O'Dimm.

I enjoyed the sidequests and the overall atmosphere of being a witcher but holy fuck was it monotone a lot of the time. Looking back at it I enjoyed my time with it a lot but I will probably never play it ever again.

I didn't say the presence of a voice protagonist disqualified it from being an RPG, you simpering shitwit, I said it made it a BAD RPG. I'm not role-playing as the character I want to role-play as now, I'm playing as this character that already has a voice and backstory, among other things.

FO4 got tons of shit for having a voiced protagonist, with the point that it severely limits role-playing options being the most common and prominent complaint. So tell me, why was it awful in that game but not in this one? Why does it limit role-playing options in one game but not in another? It has nothing to do with how its implemented, you either have as much room to write whatever you want, or you have a voiced protagonist and have a fraction of the amount of space to say the same things.

I'm saying its bad. It wasn't responsive, it was pretty shallow, there wasn't much variation in how you played or approached situations.

The "game" parts of the game are bad, so its a bad game. Just as a film having some great special effects and top-notch presentation and production values doesn't make it a good film if it's lacking in the areas that actually add substance and depth. Gameplay is what adds that depth and substance to games, not its presentation or story.

The loot system is pointless because random loot is never worthwhile because witcher gear always wins even if its underleveled.
The economy is pointless because theres barely any reason to spend money anywhere other than the blacksmiths and the optional shit in DLCs
The combat uses a dynamic range-attack system that determines the animation based on the distance to the target, which can often lead into Geralt spinning around for years when last time he did a quick jab.
The enemy variety and design is fucking abysmal, their movesets are extremely similar and the game even reskins old enemies and then treats them as new ones in the DLCs.
The open world is filled with ubisoft-tier filler that no one likes doing.
The basic movement just doesn't feel as snappy as it should, even on the alternate setting. They went for fluid animations and realistic weight when that hurts the controlling a lot.
And the quest design boils down to you walking around in circles and spamming X so Geralt can shove some exposition down your throat. It requires no thought, no puzzling and no skill to do.

Honestly for me the biggest problem is how much the game holds your hand during sidequests, along with how boring most of said sidequests are. I want to fucking explore the world you made, find secrets on my own, and do sidequests without being fucking railroaded around by the goddamn minimap. It's actually infuriating how bad that shit is. >>376556684
Maybe because Witcher 3 isn't a good game?
Maybe because its a glorified fucking visual novel with every single flaw in the AAA handbook, and yet it gets a pass because of the sheer number of people praising it.

Why would critics, journalists or even normal gamers voice their actual opinions and criticize something so loved? Just think about it, there is literally no way that everyone loved it 10/10, but 99% of all reviews do give it a 10/10 because saying otherwhise can alienate your core fanbase/readership.

The only reason you fucks even praise this shit is because of goty awards, sales and metacritic, as if any of those mattered in the first place. When placed under scrutiny, this fanbase has showed time and time again that they're completely incapable of accepting criticism and actually debating.

Guys does this ever change? Because this game gets spouted as one of great greatest of all time and I enjoyed fucking Fallout 4 as an action-adventure game better

My post was a mess. Wanted to reply to both separately but forgot to meme arrow " this is a fact" and add "pic related". Ignore my autism.
I also enjoyed the game a lot and got tired of arguing with /v/tards so im just calling out the tard for blatant bullshittery.

Velen is the best section in the main quest.
If you're not doing sidequests, you should. They have the most enjoyable short stories and don't get fucked by poor pacing and the sheer scale of the task like the main quest does.
The DLCs are both great, even if the main quest in B&W is kinda meh.
This is all story wise by the way, the gameplay is what it is now. It will never change significantly and the only choice you will ever have in combat is if you want to cheese it with swords, alchemy or magic. If you loathe the gameplay aspects now, they won't become better as you play.

Gameplay is horrible to the point it makes Ubisoft games look good by comparison, it plays like Assassin's Creed except without parkour, stealth, even worse AI, far nire tedious hoarding, pointless progression system, hand holding taken to a whole new level, etc.
When you sink to the point you make something even worse than Ubisoft then you have truly reached the epitome of shit.
Story/writing was the typical pretentious teenager garbage that's so common now, with a heavy dose of modern pseudo intellectualism to make it even more obnoxious.

As far as high profile games go, this might actually be the worst I've ever played. I honestly can't think of anything worse.
Facial animations were top notch though, and the environments were pretty but repetitive, especially after being gutted by the downgrade (old trailer looked far more diverse).

Clunky combat, boring "tough guy protagonist", and backstory i knew nothing about nor gave a shit about because i haven't played the others.
Was thinking about giving it another try tho
>>
>>376552293
It's a disappointment when you've played W1 and 2 and seen the potential.
Also
>combat still boring and broken
>movement still unresponsive and clunky
It's like they improved nothing apart from visuals and voice acting, which is pretty much what W2 did from W1.

I thought it was really good. Easily within my top 10 games of all time and I've been playing games since they were sold on floppy disks.

People who say it's bad probably played it for an hour on casual mode and then got bored. I read up on the backstory so I would get the lore and characters and then played through to the end of Blood and Wine on the second to highest difficulty. I thought it was great.
>>
Well I played it after work for a few days and really loved it. Then I had to travel for a couple weeks and when I came back I couldnt remember much. I struggled around trying to find a good save, but the whole interest had slipped away.
>>
>>376559967
This. Just disable the Ubisoft-esque minimap, turn off subtitles and crank up difficulty and it's an entire different game.

Following doted lines on a minimap with piss easy combat just isn't fun.

I don't have a good enough PC to run the PC version.
The game on console was just decent. The combat isn't very engaging, and for a really fucking long RPG with a heavy focus on combat, having absolutely no progression in fights is a bad thing.
The writing is real good though and I like most of the characters.
>>
>>376559778
difficulty is all over the place.
hard to keep track of your progress.
no way to determine who you are playing against, every other gwent player is presented as some local master.
too elaborate for a quick distraction, getting a gwent prompt inside an already lengthy conversation makes it even more tedious.
not elaborate enough to stand on its own.

but sure, it's mechanically sound and pretty much the only decent part of the game.
>>
>>376560126
one thing I might say but not necessarily complain about is that the difficulty is not very smooth

even if fighting bandits and vampires and wraiths is super easy, the biggest boss fights will still be really difficult

I mean I had a good amount of trouble fighting the toad prince even though most monsters could be killed with a simple slash slash step slash slash step

official witcher 3 review.

all non-quest related things you can find on the world are copy paste boring shit
no one will talk to you unless they are quest related and you have the quest that requires them
awful ui made for consoles and only 2 consumable slots, making alch spec a chore
no resource management, you just instantly get all your potions back for whats essentiallly free
enemys have 1, maybe 2, attack that they repeat over and over, making fights absolutely boring after an hour
level system only works to the games detriment, as youll quickly outlevel everything you have to do and it will all be easier than the game already is
coming across a SKULL WARNING SIGN monster should be exciting but it's not, because you know it fights exactly the same as all the others of its kind, only with more hp.
"cinematic" controls that ignore accuracy in favor of looking more natural
even death march is easy as fuck due to a lack of enemy attack variety and every ability you can spec into being way too strong
ciri sections are boring and unneeded and only serve to rob you of what could have been the one interesting boss fight in the game.
the final moments of the story seem rushed as fuck, from oh hi crones now we fight, to im eredin i have a secret, im dying my secret is this guy tricked us and i had no plan to deal with it, to oh actually geralt i didnt trick you
majority of loot is randomized and scales to your level. Nothing you find really excites you.
all enemies have an extremely short tether that you will cross unintentionally more often than not. At this point they ignore you and start walking back to the center of the area or hang around to get hit easily
witcher senses are only ever used when the quest requires it and is just hold right click to follow quest arrow. you cant actually track monsters or anything out in the world(and why would you need to? theyre all tethered to a small location and never move away)

6/10 game. Had potential, wasted it.

Make list of complaints
Only Loot
And
Witcher Senses turned into legitimate complaints.

Like, you don't understand the economy. Nor do you understand the combat system or the enemy types.

Only HP and damage changes with difficulty as far as I noticed, and I played on death march. AI is still brain dead, you can still permanently stun some enemies with igni and some enemies like the first boss can be beaten by literally (literally) only using backstep and heavy swing. Only difference is that you'll slash through a human more times before they die.

Dark Souls has character building and customization, which is more than you can say for pokemon
