I mean respect all options if people just find it nostalgic by the style but hell some people are just delusional thinking it's still a successful design choice compared to modern 3d graphic gaming when in reality it just sets a lot of limitations with current gaming. Best I'll give props is to classic sonic being somewhat better in some aspects compared to modern sonic , but only because Sega keeps shitting itself with most its 3d era games and setting the bar low already.

Example: See Sonic Mania and how classicfags are trying to make it seem bigger than it actually is.

3D is far, FAR more immersive. And 3D models are capable of conveying far more emotion than 2D sprites, even low-poly ones. See: FFIV DS.

You talk like 3D > 2D by default, and that just isn't the case.
Funny you mention Sonic as well, because that really is the perfect example. There has never been a 3D sonic game above mediocre, but Sonic & Knuckles, Sonic 3 (and even Sonic CD to some people) were considered near perfect games in their time and still are considered great by many. No 3D sonic game will ever reach the same tier of greatness as 2D sonic games, and that's because the formula simply cannot work in 3D.

It cannot work for the gameplay of Sonic at all.
Many other great games/styles cannot work in 3D as well. Mega Man is another good example of fun/great game design that probably couldn't work in 3D, that's why they made it into an RPG for his 3D debut.

A game can be good no matter the dimension or the graphics or the gameplay. What matters is the execution of such. That's the big divider that literally determines whether a game is good, or whether it should go right into the dumpster. For example, you can hate all you want on pixel trash that feels like it just got pooped out of the anus of a californian art major, but does that detriment masterpieces like super Metroid, or Donkey Kong? Likewise, 3D can also be good, but tell me that it's a guarantee of quality with games like Mass Effect Andromeda, or The Last of Us, or The Order 1886.

This always extreme attitude is gonna get us all killed some day, or it'll possibly kill one of your favorite video game franchises.
