Salmon is the one true path. Until unlocking pufferfish, then go pufferfish all the fucking way

It's amazing how huge some fish are. Final Fantasy XV is probably the only game that is semi accurate. However catching deep sea fish, on a dock, with a standard fishing rod, is pretty fake.
>>
>>376541618
They were even bigger 50 years ago, fishing reduced the size of most of the consumed species

If we ease back they'll grow that big again. They're dying too young.
>>
>>376544019
Part of the decrease is due to genetics. So no matter how well their populations are managed, we will still have fishlets.

Increasing oxygen content is an easy fix that will make fish bigger.
>>
>>376546634
It doesn't work that way my dude, and good luck increasing the concentration of oxygen considering
>It is a gas that dissolves like shit in water
>High temperatures imply decreased levels of oxygen because it reduces its already low levels of solubility
>The seas are getting warmer
>>
>>376546634

That's how it works for insects, what the fuck does oxygen have to do with it.

>>376545553

Nothing to do with genetics, it's entirely age. Those tuna that they were catching YEARS ago? Those things can live up to 40 years. They simply can't reach that age nowadays before being pulled up
>>

>Nothing to do with genetics
Yes it does most of the time, if you get the biggest specimens each time eventually you would probably have selected against fishes that grow big.
At the same time you are probably selecting those that mature quickly because they manage to reproduce earlier (and leave offspring before dying) at the expense of body growth. Fishes may live long and that but they can't grow eternally or at least at the same rate as juveniles.

Another example more clear is what happened with several species of whales. Sperm whales, for instance, were bigger than the modern size, but whaling caused a decrease in the mean size. And like all mammals whales don't grow after they become adults.
