Not really. But then again I'm just not a fan of metroidovania. The weapons were cool though. And some of the OST is pretty nice.

the game itself was really good, soundtrack was good too. my only complaint it was overly pixely.

It's mediocre. Only thing it has going for it is sometimes good pixel art and music, but the pixel art is usually bad and lazy (every area just uses palette-swapped tiles), the exploration is linear as hell and the abilities you get suck, and most of what you do find are just +1 stat boosts or weapons that are completely useless, and the story is terrible and massively dumped on you in the first half then almost entirely forgotten in the second half.

I think it;s worth a playthrough but holy fuck the grappling hook was one of the worst I've ever used.

I know it looks like it's a pretty cheap rip-off, but I do honestly think that ESA is the best metroidvania I've played. The bosses are great, the pacing is great, the ambiance is great, etc. I totally understand if people have an issue with how the game looks, but I think it's worth playing despite that. The difficulty spikes can also be a bit rough on some people.
