I play mainly fighting games and a fuckton of RPGs and i'm always open to new experiences (just now i've finished Resonance of Fate), but people like me are more rare than common: vast majority of Italy plays FIFA, GTA, MOBAs and Assassin's Creed.

The PS1 was the first console for many children. While Nintendo started translating its games to Italian with the fucking GAMECUBE, the PS1 had fully voiced, fully translated dialogue.
While my friend enjoyed reading through the plot in FFIX, I was playing Ocarina of Time, having no ide that a guard wanted a Keaton Mask, thinking somehow that "Sometimes" was the name of a village.
THAT'S when Sony snak its teeth into Italy, never to let go.

Then came FIFA and PES, and the chads playing them in the open.
Other consoles never had a chance. PC is ok though, because being a pirate is well regarded and even appreciated.
