Nice. I've also bought Bayonetta.
A few more years and games like this and we'll get to a point of simultaneous releases for all Jap games, even more than now.

So, I think I'm gonna like this game, but not sure. I liked
Devil May Cry 1/3/4, and Metal Gear Rising. I didn't like Bayonetta, however, like its "stylishness" got in the way, like picking up enemy weapons and swinging around on them before they break. I don't want to do that shit, I just want to use weapons I pick up and use the rest of the game. I know Vanquish is drastically different than any of the games I mentioned, but a kick-ass action-oriented game with the shooting elements sounds pretty great and everyone that's played it seems to love it. I hope I will too, I'm considering buying it for a full Tubman instead of waiting for a sale, almost as a reward for them releasing it so cheap. I don't get the discount, I had Bayonetta on Wii U.

PC has less restrictions and is easiest to port to (since games are developed on PC anyway). As long as the game works, they can shove it on Steam and start selling it.

While PS4 and Xbox One aren't nearly as obtrusive in this regard as previous consoles thanks to hardware architecture and Sony/MS being less restrictive with what is required for a game to be released, there are still more hurdles than releasing on PC.

So for games where the devs go "Actually lets shove this on something and see how it does with a new audience" PC is the logical choice. The cost of porting is so minimal that even things like Phantom Brave PC selling 10,000 is enough for NISA to keep releasing PC ports.

Because there's still more restrictions and requirements to release on console than on PC. But as far as those are concerned, both Sony and Microsoft are way less assy about it than previous gens.

Additionally ports like Bayonetta and Vanquish recently are more testing the waters for a new audience than simply a way of releasing on newer hardware.

Because that's one of the cases where they ADDED unnecessary hurdles. PS2 games on PS4 need to have trophy support and they need to be able to run at higher resolutions without graphical glitches, so they take a bit more work than simply throwing it on an emulator.

I played Bayo on PS3 first, platinumed it, and have since gone through the game on both Wii U and PC.

The PS3 version is objectively the worst by a wide margin, 30fps with regular drops, and worse textures on top of that. I enjoyed it on PS3, but I don't think the difference should ever be understated - the game is absolutely better on 360/Wii U.

Not really, it's just an Atlus thing where they keep their games locked on their launch platform, or under a brand. If Sony had Persona under lock down, no Persona Arena on Xbox, or Persona Q on 3DS.

In PC's case, I think Atlus just hates the shit out of it, and since Sega lets Atlus do their own thing without intervening, they will never release one of their games on PC. It's hard even for their Japanese published games to get PC releases, KOFXIV only now got announced for PC, and Vanillaware still haven't said anything about their claim to be researching ways to release Dragon's Crown on PC.

Literally only a miracle for Atlus to do it.

Those are quite solid numbers for new IPs, especially Bayonetta's. Arachy sales were bad but that's entirely Sega's fault for holding release for half year without any reason. That game had so much potential. Look at modern PC multiplayer games - hero shooters, hero mobas, all that shit is dominating the market. Max Anarchy is amazing game but it required marketing and online scene. I think it can find its niche on PC for 15$ price now because game itself is fun.
