Bomberman got lucky because it was there at launch and in retail stores. PuyoTeto was there at the Japan launch.

There is a little breathing room for 3rd parties right now inbetween Kart and Arms/Splatoon that they should be taking advantage of, but no one really is. Its unfortunate, because after that its all Nintendo dominance until next year.

Just a shame that they still hold MonsterHunter captive. Thankfully 3DS is about to die and with it so will Capcom's attempts at recycling PS2 assets for over a decade. With Monster Hunter's 5th generation I'm pretty sure they will make an *actual* new engine (they've had plenty of time considerring MHX and MHXX are just 4th gen padding games - filler, in other words).
Now that MonHun will have improved assets, and with the Switch not having a big enough install base to carry the series on its own I think MH5 will come out of PS4 and I won't have to tollerate 3DS's fucking 240p resolution and ever shittier textures (thanks to the more demanding lighting systems they insist on using, MH4 and MHG somehow have worse texture work than MH3U or MHFU/MHP3 on the fucking PSP)

That turned into a MH rant but fuck it. The fact that MH5 will be SOMEWHERE THAT'S NOT THE 3DS makes me cum. I won't buy a Switch for it that's for sure, but if it comes out on PS4 or PC I'm a happy guy.

#1. They made it extremely easy to develop for the Switch, a lot of 3rd party developers have already come out in support of it because of that. Making ports is apparently especially easy.

Of course the safe bet is to say that MH5 will be on Switch, since it's portable, but at the time of MH5's release (next year at max) the Switch still won't have a big enough base to make it worth it for Capcom. There will be at best 15 million Switch units out there by 2018, not enough for the MonHun franchise. The only other current alternative is the PS4 (if my assumption of a new engine that doesn't run on 3DS is correct, that is). Of course it COULD come out of Xbone and PC but let's be honest, we all know it won't.

As for the 3DS library, most of what's left are third party games and games published by Nintendo but developed by other studios. Nintendo is focusing on Switch, as they should if they want it to succeed.

PS4 presents the best opportunity to expand to the west outside of 3DS's consumer base.
We're at a point where, by mid 2018, there will be 70 to 75 million PS4's and 10-ish million Switch's. Unless they make 3 generations in a row 3DS compatible then they simply can't risk only selling it on Switch.

Devs FLOCKED to playstation to avoid Nintendo's draconian policies, it all started since the N64/PS1 era. Playstation doesn't need to buy devs, but of course they do much like everyone else, including Nintendo.
Literally no console is special without games, all that matters are games, what's your point?
PS4 is "special" in the fact that it has the biggest consumer base out there, it'll even (most probably) surpass 3DS number by the end of next year.

But that isn't uncommon for Sony homeconsoles. All of them but PS3 have been the best selling ones with the widest consumer base by a long margin each generation. PS1 outsold the N64 by 300%, PS2 ousold the GV by 750%, Wii managed to outsell the PS3 by a mere 20% (so even PS3 failure isn't that much of a failure, consumer base wise, considering how well the Wii sold) and PS4 is outselling the WiiU by roughly what... 430%(?) and growing since the WiiU is now dead.
