I used to really enjoy his reviews/rants about movies and games. Especially movies when he would just sit there in front of his bed on the floor with a soda or burger or whatever and talk about the films. He would always hit the nail on the head but at some point it was like I was watching a different guy. A complete moron who was trying WAY too hard and got everything wrong in the process.

There was a vlog he once did after one of the FF reviews (that people actually enjoyed for a change because it was more like his early day stuff) where he was talking about all the positive feedback he received and how it surprised him. He tried to figure out what he did right and got it completely wrong in the end.

Youtube ruined Spoony. When he was just posting his videos on his website, it was an echo chamber, everyone there was there because they were looking for his content specifically, and he had his own forums and sycophant moderators who kept dissenters away. All he ever saw was positive feedback, because any and all negativity was kept at bay. Once he started putting things on Youtube, the floodgates opened and he suddenly had to face this immense wave of negativity, the likes of which he had never dealt with before. He didn't take into consideration that that's simply how Youtube is, he instead took it all personally and felt like people hated him all of a sudden. It's why he stopped doing movie vlogs entirely, because a few dozen Youtube comments were complaining about the review vlogs being longer than the movies themselves. Rather than either ignoring these comments, or if he wanted to take them to heart, cutting down the videos to a less-than-feature-length time, he just stopped doing them all together. This then became his way of dealing with Youtube. People said they didn't like the way something was, then the solution wasn't to either ignore them or make some changes, it was to just stop producing that thing all together.

I posit that if Spoony had never started focusing on Youtube instead of his own site, he would still be producing regular content and cultivating a significant fanbase. He would not be as popular as he was at the height of TGWTG popularity, but he'd be doing far better than he is now.
