Several domestic and global health organizations, such as the FDA and WHO, make a distinction between natural (intrinsic) and added (free) sugars. The former is sugar found in natural food, such as fruits, vegetables, and some grains and meats. These have shown no link to adverse health effects after several decades of study, so there is no proposed limitation on natural/intrinsic sugar intake for a healthy lifestyle.

The latter, however, are sugars added to food artificially, such as the sugar found in soda. Both the FDA and WHO recommend adults limit their added sugar intake to under 10% of their daily calorie intake, which for adult males comes out to be about 50g of added sugar a day.

A can of regular coke has 39g of sugar in. This means that, according to the FDA, WHO, and several other health organizations, you can safely drink a can of coke every single day and it will have NO adverse effects on your health and weight.

As for tooth decay, it's true that sugar and acid can damage teeth, but not only has tooth decay and damage been primarily linked to poor oral hygiene as opposed to sugar, it's entirely preventable through proper care and cleaning.

See above! Sugar has very little correlation to oral health, no more than any other kind of food. It shouldn't have any impact whatsoever on the health of your teeth if you just take proper care of your them. On the estimated average 2000kcal optimal caloric intake for for the average adult male(which is an overestimation considering how sedentary most people are) that's going to make a significant difference. Added sugar doesn't satiate you much, and unless you're eating very low calorie dense foods you're not gonna feel satiated with your remaining ~1800kcal for the day either..

If I were shitposting instead of just dropping verifiable facts from global health organizations, I'd call you out on moving the goalposts. I was talking about sugar, not calories. Specifically how much added sugar is recommended for an adult male's daily intake, and its effects on oral hygiene. And when it comes to sugar, a can of soda a day is perfectly acceptable for a healthy lifestyle.

But let's talk about calories too! For a 21-40 year old male living a sedentary lifestyle as defined by the USDA (I'm assuming this describes everyone on /v/), a max of 2400 calories a day will let you maintain a healthy lifestyle with no adverse effects to your health or weight. If you have an active lifestyle, you can safely add another 600 calories and still be fine. If you think these numbers sound wrong, don't worry. They're straight from the USDA.

Now, a can of coke has 140 calories in. Which is definitely a lot, about 17% of your daily calorie intake in a single can. Now, the average American eats over 2600 calories a day...but that number is heavily skewed by obesity rates and is already including people who drink soda regularly. So how do we figure out how much of that is attributed to soda?

By looking at calorie intakes in countries where drinking soda isn't the norm, using a study produced by the UN's FAO. And in those countries, adult males take in less than 2300 calories a day. Meaning they could all drink a can of soda a day and still live healthy, unaffected lifestyles within the recommended daily calorie intake according to various aforementioned health organizations.
