I heard PC fighting games were dead or died in a few months for everything except Street Fighter

For games like this, networking is your best friend. There are two main KOF discord channels, multiple KOF fb groups, a KOF reddit, KOF threads in fighting games forums.

You can always find matches, but unless you live on the coasts you're going to be gorging on ping.

If you live in New York, you're fine basically all the time, KoF is far from dead.
