Thrive is a thing.
It was born from a Spore 2 hoax, and is pretty much a super detailed version of Spore that is being developed at glacial speeds.
Yet development is surprisingly steady, I often think that the project must have flopped and I'll check only to see that it's still very much in development.

The game in reality is a very shallow space sim. The other stages are irrelevant as you can get through them in a few sittings. Unless you are the creative type who can make really autistic things in the creators, it isn't for you. Otherwise GA is OK, there are some pretty cool adventures.
