1 if you haven't played it already. It's the best one.
>>
1 if you're a storyfag
2 if you're a gameplayfag
>>
>>376468591
I liked 2 more gameplay wise, but 1 was a better protagonist
>>
1 by far
>>
both were great

1 was the first and, for a long while, only game I had for 360 and became a massive fanboy for it

Was so hyped yet so skeptical for 2, but when I finally played it, it was pretty much a perfect sequel, bigger and better, DLCs were a waste of time in retrospect, but it was a fun marketing gimmick before Capcom went too far with it

What's the latest on 3 and 4 coming to PS4?
I know 4 is dogshit, but I'd still like to give it a go once it's super cheap
They did say it would be a exclusive for a year only, but I wonder if 3 will come first

2 has online coop easy choice

1. I somehow felt nostalgic for that game even though I had never played it before. Something about it just has a really great old school feel

Dead Rising 2
1 May have had Frank and all, but 2 had combo weapons, more psychopaths, and more cooperative AI.

Then again if you'd like Frank in 2, there's always DR2:OTR.
>>
>>376471028
Combo weapons being a good thing is debatable
>>
>>376471114
Combo weapons had more variety. In Dead Rising 1, if you wanted something good you had to farm Adam's mini chainsaws (if you defeated him that is).
>>
Replay DR1 if you claim it was better than 2. DR2 refined it so much while keeping the atmosphere and personality great.

The only legit reason DR1 is more hailed is because it had a bigger cultural impact. DR2 is better in every way.
>>
2 is better than one because you don't have conman directing it.
>>
>>376472384

>>
>>376471190
But manikin torsos and the broadsword/katana existed, as did the hunting shop of unlimited shotguns.

I mean, I'll give it points for being creative as far as zombie games go.

I love the first one, I miss the threads from the remaster launch.

I haven't spent enough time on the second one to form a valid opinion but I do like the thought of playing co-op someday.
>>
>>376473168
you had to work and fine certain hidden areas for them. Also you had to defeat Cletus, and that motherfucker mostly camps in his shop when you confront him. The only way to get there is to wait a few days though,
>>
>>376473312
We don't speak of this game here....
>>
>>376468591
I've only played a little bit of DR2 and I just thought it was okay. I plan on giving it an honest play through one day. I haven't really touched any of the other sequels either.
But I will say the first game is a modern classic in my eyes, if not for a few a flaws.
>>
>>376473312
So what's wrong with 4 didn't keep up wih Dead Rising after 2, i know 3 was a buggy mess on PC but is 4 really that bad ?
>>
>>376474108
Cletus isn't that hard if you can get the timing down and bring some shit to use as cover.
>>
>>376474108
>have to overcome a challenge or explore the map or experiment with stuff like the mannequin torso and jewels to get rewarding weapons

>>
>>376474313
Everything you could ruin in Dead Rising was ruined in Dead Rising 4.

Y'know how games like Resident Evil 6 and the Alone in the Dark remake understood nothing about why people liked the series? It's something like that.

Remember what made Dead Rising unique and made it so talked about? Remove all of that and you have Dead Rising 4. It somehow managed to out black sheep 3 and Chop Til You Drop.
>>
>>376474398
Shit, you right. I suppose what I mean was that it would be harder to find with newer players I guess??

Then again that's what Newgame+ is for lmao.

Then again this is coming from an individual who didn't know about some of the hidden items until years later, so I guess I'm a fag when it comes to that shit in 1.
>>
>>376468591
1>>>>>>2 and the rest aren't worth even worth mentioning.
>>
>>376474591
Only thing problem i had with DR 1 and 2 was the timer and the fact you have a shit ton of stuff to do i felt like i never had enough time to complete everything i dont like rushing through a game.
>>
>it's a "pretend DR2 was a bad game" episode
>>
>>376474996
DR2 was by no means bad, but you could see it starting to go wrong.
>>
>>376474969
If you're good enough at the games you can beat the time limit and still accomplish every mission.

Hell, even 3 gives you the option to choose what pace you want your timer to be, whether you want it to be intense like the first games, or easygoing so you can find the collectibles, blueprints, do sidemissions, etc.
>>
1 and 2.5, frank west is the true hero; skip 4 like the plague though, that ain't frank.
>>
>>376474313
Alright.
The plot is retarded.
The characters constantly spout unfunny jokes and references.
The psychos are all lolsorandum-tier. Somehow even worse than DR3's.
It's easy as piss, zombies will take years to kill you even if you stand in the middle of a hoard and do nothing.
There's a lot more wrong, too, but I'm too lazy to write it all up.
>>
>>376475147
It's like they took Frank from the godawful DR:Watchtower movie and made a game solely around him.
>>
If I only care about the gameplay, is there any reason to pick DR2 over OTR?
>>
>>376475306
Better AI.
escorting survivors doesn't feel like babysitting mentally handicapped children
>>
>>376474969
>he thinks he had to rush through the game
It's called pick your battles. You're not expected to get everything right your first playthough, nor are you expected to do everything your first playthrough. Your stats and shit save through subsequent playthroughs so eventually you will be this badass that can clear every event and have more than enough time, but not the very first go around. Honestly the game would be boring as hell if it didn't have time constantly nipping at your heels.
>>
>>376475296
Frank wasn't THAT bad in Watchtower.
I mean, I wouldn't call him great, but at least he wasn't 'dude golf lmao'
>>
>>376474625
>>want the real ending? DLC!
Fucking Capcom Vancouver. This still makes me mad. No one even called them out on it
>>
>>376475598

I didn't rush through tho i tried my best to do as much i could. Thing is when i complete game story mode or single player game i don't feel like playing the game again i get bored of every game pretty fucking quickly i went through DR 2 1 time and never touched the game again.

2 had those cool sluts
>>
>>376474874
yeah for newer players it's a bit daunting. At level 1 you are very underpowered. the time limit makes it's painful the first time you miss a case cos you were fucking around or didn't know the quickest way to get where you're going. Bosses are hard to kill if you don't know how. Resources are thin if you don't know where to look for them. A lot of people give up here and say 'shit game'

But the more you play the better you get each time. You eventually find the katana on the orange canopy. You learn that pies and orange juice make untouchable. you get faster and stronger with levels. You learn the secrets to faster PP gain like shooting the plates in the food court or running on the treadmills in the gym.

eventually, you come to understand that the time limit is freeing, not restrictive. That you aren't meant to do everything in one playthrough. You learn how to cope with the dogshit AI. You figure out how to cheese bosses with minichainsaws-mags. Eventually, you are God of the mall, you come to love the game, warts and all.

And then you attempt to get the real mega buster then end the game without being on the helipad and then have to do it all over again....
>>
>>376475912
I was like, 8 when I first played it, so I was an inexperienced little shit who always got killed by the convicts or Carlito and his fucking sniper rifle in that one case where you have to rescue Barnaby with Brad.

Regardless, DR1 is still a classic.
>>376475887

The DR series always had it's obligatory husbando/waifu bait the Twins were nothing special. Lol.

wait, are you saying OTR purposely nerfed survivor AI to make it closer to the first game?
holy fuck I need to try it already
survivors in 1 were fun when you had the mag
they were at their best when you had to baby them and clear paths, but also when they would actually listen and not run off into a herd behind you
it was a non-issue in 2, which was abit of a shame imo

That part was infuriating as shit.
Then having to waddle back to the safe house on a short time limit with like, 2 blocks of health, and having to get there in a zombie infested basement or whatever the shit.

Legitimately why he's my least favourite villain in the series.
>>
>>376474969
thats called replayability. the next time, you got more levels and are generally better at the game. you end up filling up time looking for things to do.
you could literally drop everything and play strip big texas holdem in the middle of the zombie apocalypse.

>>376476875
I was worried that was the case.
I'm not praising 1's AI since half the time they wouldn't listen, but 2 removed all tension from escorts by making them much harder to kill and thus not needing to worry about them whatsoever.
>>
>>376477237
Wasn't his motivation something like "You kill me peeopul and you eat meat. die."?
>>
>>376476691
1 is my favorite Dead Rising but I'd rather not have to carve my survivors out of a horde of zombies every time a single zombie is in their path
>>
>>376474313
>Dude frank is a zombie now but he has magic zombie powers!!!
>*kills zombies* HAHA FUCK YOU NAZIS
>SELFIE
>dude powersuit!

Literally THE worst way to kill this franchise.
>>
>>376477272
At least with 2 it wasn't a total pain. While I agree that it creates tension in 1, it pisses me off.

In 3 though, you don't have to escort them to any particular safe house, and they're competent to the point where you can bring them along on missions and have them fight alongside you, individual stats and all.

Nice touch, DR3.

Escorting survivors is non-existent in 4 though.
>>
>>376476194
DR2 on paper should be better than DR1, but is unfortunately hamstrung by having to reproduce DR1's features and content on an entirely different engine by an entirely different dev team from an entirely different country. The basic game feel and pacing suffers noticeably as a result. Damn Japs couldn't be bothered to produce an English MT Framework devkit. Plus I doubt Keiji was much help as a producer given he's a fucking hack.

I still think DR2 is good on its own merits, but putting it next to DR1 highlights how much the new team struggled to reproduce gameplay from the first game on their engine.
>>
>>376468591
Dead Rising 2 is only a slightly worse retread of 1 with a worse protagonist.

It's also the best of the sequels precisely because Inafune was breathing down their necks making sure they didn't fuck it up. Once they got free reign, they immediately fucked it up.

Canadians were a mistake. Why do you guys even try, you can't make games for shit.
>>
>>376477357
>>376477523
I love both 1/2, but not having a middle ground between ai thats either braindead or totally independant is a shame.
I'd love any zombie game with escort missions if it struck this balance.
Never bothered with 3, after seeing how 4 turned out I'm warming up to the idea of giving it a go.

You had more freedom when it came to messing with zombies. I still don't understand how they fucked up zombie play after 1 and just never fixed it.
>>
>>376478590
Yeah I'll take "AI is too easy to escort" over "AI constantly gets stuck on each other, the roof ledge, and that FUCKING shortcut turn EVERY FUCKING TIME" frustration city, I don't know why people prefer that.

I prefer photography in theory, but outside of actually spamming every PP sticker shot you could get, you never got decent EXP from it and it's only used in quests like twice. Really underwhelming when I replayed it the other day.

I'll also take unlockable weapons like the Mega Buster over Combo weapons.
>>
>>376477643
You can't blame Canada for Capcom being cheap niggers. Capcom has NEVER made MT Framework available in the West, let alone DR1's source code. Can you really expect them to remain failthful to the series' roots when they aren't even allowed to look at its code?
