I can't believe people are joking about some of this shit anymore.

People meme a lot but I think Akechi had a decent amount of nuance as a character. He was a bastard child in Japan (culturally this makes people view him as inherently shit), dead mom, finds out his dad is a prick. He spends all his time trying to be a hotshot superstar, gets the persona power, and then realizes this is his chance to fuck over his dad. The fact that his motivation is both to screw his dad completely AND gain some kind of warped acceptance from him already makes him a deeper character than "muh memories" Morgana, for example. His interactions with the PT show him what his life could have been like had he not did what he did, but he's aware enough of that to use his last moments to save them, accepting the consequences of his actions but still trying to do at least one good thing. He's not a flat character by any means -- he wouldn't be an axe murderer without his persona but he probably wouldn't be morally a hundred percent either.

Actually with what happened with Aigis in the Answer, I believe yes very much so. They never had a real example of that happening like you're describing it since Metis was an ally to Aigis more than a proper Shadow. However they never stated that something like that can't straight up happen.
