There's minor continuity, but it doesn't really impact the game.

i say yes soley because No Mercy imo is the most fun campaign.
Aside from that you can play them in any order, the maps fr l4f1 dont run together, wheras in l4d2 they run in sequence. (the characters ride a car at the end of one campaign; car is crashed at the beginning of the next campaign etc)

It doesn't really matter. I don't know why, but the L4D1 maps imported into L4D2 don't feel as immersive, so I would suggest playing it in the original game if it's an option. If not, just play em all in any order.

There's a sort of overlap of the stories at one point. Where one level from L4D1 takes place at a similar time as L4D2.

I'll do No Mercy first then.

I just realized there's no cutscenes for No Mercy. So that sucks.

This game is sad. I remember it coming out and everyone was hyped. They said there would constant updates...and that the game engine would change routes and paths so that no match was the same....

Then L4D2 word came out within months of l4D1 being released. Community was pissed. Devs promised they wouldn't abandon l4D1 but both games fizzeled out.

L4D2 still gets at least 10k players per day. L4D1 had some community until they ported all the content to L4D2.

You can watch the Left4Dead intro on YouTube. But like all Valve games cutscenes aren't really a thing.
