well I got through the 10 hours of Lisa, and I couldn't make it past the first hour of Undertale because I was so bored (I had already played Lisa). I actually find the middle endings interesting because they reflect on your actions. Plus the player is prompted to try again by the game itself to try to not kill anybody if you spared Flowey. Your method of redirection should be reserved if the player is hopelessly lost and would like to at least have a hint. I'm genuinely not memeing here, actually asking a question. Did toby fox or whatever the creator's name is genuinely try to make his game appeal to the tumblr audience? Of course Alphys, who I think is a girl, has a crush on undyne and shit, but there's a big difference between making a character gay, and making a character's only quality being that they're gay.
Aside from that, I don't recall there being a ton of tumblr fanservice, I feel like they mostly made art and shit that made the game look like tumblr fanservice.
All in all I had a fun time playing through it once, probably wouldn't play again, but I did enjoy a lot of the jokes and felt it was pretty self aware. Probably got more praise than it deserves but I blame that largely on the special snowflakes who acted like it was gods gift to the other 900 genders that there apparently are.

Undertale is a personality quiz. The natural way it goes. You play the game doing things as you see them and get the ending you deserve. The game even comments on what you're doing or even if you restart to try to save toriel because you felt bad about it. Then you try again but do things different, sparing or killing everything.
