Because it's very different from your standard Fire Emblem game. While I understand why some people may not like it, I liked FE2 for what it was: a cool hybrid between FE and Shining Force.

And Echoes is an improvement to the original in every way. Hell, Echoes excels at so many things the other 3DS games failed it, it has a good story, good characters that aren't full fanservice, actual worldbuilding, base conversations, no MU ruining the plot. Echoes is almost perfect except for its map design and the short number of supports (I'm glad it's not bloated with supports like Awakening and Fates but at the same time it has even less than the GBA games)

tl;dr It's just different, I think FE fans should still give it a try. Also Dyute is the Cyutest.

Well one of the most interesting things about Echoes is Alm's and Celica's approach to war and fighting.

Alm believes in eye for a eye while Celica believes two wrongs don't make a right.

They are two different protagonists with very different, and human, ideals.

The difference between Celica and Corrin for instance is that Corrin honestly belives that in a war environment everyone can just kiss and make up despite all the fucking things that happened and becuase s/he's the main character they can't be faulted.
However Celica understands to stop fighting she must first stop the war, and to do this she must do what she hates and fight.

The Cat sisters were Lethe and Lyre. Both not quite as good as Ranulf but Cats in general are difficult to use.

Played it, beat it, hated it. Nothing was changed except the UI, presentation, and amount of dialogue. The maps are exactly the same and on Alm's side actually worse since Warp got nerfed. You can't just lob Alm and Grey to the other side of the map to make things quicker like you could in FE2 since Warp range is based on the magic stat. It's still all rout all the time with absolutely nothing interesting going on in any of the chapters. Terrain is still bullshit and the desert and swamp maps are still unbearable

The only good thing about Echoes is that the presentation is decent. Other than some really weak spots (Mae and Grey) Hidari's art is really nice. Full voice acting is also pretty cool since I couldn't stand the stupid stock phrase bullshit they used in the other 3DS FE games. But presentation doesn't make the problems go away. I wish people would understand that a pretty game with bad gameplay isn't a good game.

Neo-FE faggots will still eat it up and say it's such an amazing evolution on the series formula since Fates was so bad and Awakening was so good guys really. Does anyone else think Fates was really bad? It didn't live up to my first and favorite FE game Awakening XD. I'm so nostalgic for that game's amazing characters and story. It feels like it was just yesterday I was playing it in my sixth grade math class. Time sure does fly, am I right? It's so nice we have Echoes and Heroes to bring us back to our roots. You shouldn't be worried at all. Most magic takes out very little health and the ones that take out a lot shouldn't be spammed in the first place and are only for when you need to cast it.

As for the characters it usually depends. The best options for each are Gray as a mercenary, Tobin as an archer, Kliff as an mage, Faye as either a peg knight or cleric, and Atlas as a mercenary. This isn't set in stone for some character. Kliff can do well in any class, but Atlas is worthless in anything other than merc.

Nothing really comes to mind. Just give equipment accordingly based on who you think needs what.
I guess one thing would be giving the Levin Sword to Gray because it does a fixed 15 damage and is useful early on when enemies have no resistance. Also giving the leather shield you get early on to Silque to hep with her defence.
Another thing to watch out for is the items or weapons that adjust your speed stat because you only need 1 more speed than your opponent to double them.

Keep in mind that you learn skills from weapons this time around. Most skills don't double so certain skills like armorbreaker are better off on slower characters that wouldn't be doubling in the first place like your armor knights. Also when female mages promote they get to use swords, however equipping a sword won't actually do them much good because it's attack power won't increase the attack power of their spells and the only time they would ever want to use a sword is when killing mages with low defense. The only exception is Celica because she gets her own personal sword with a really strong skill attached to it.

That honestly should be enough for a good Fire Emblem. Fire Emblem's best story telling aspects was always the inbetween stuff and filler between the smaller characters in the grand scheme and all of it intersecting in one story. It's a series that's really more about the journey than the destination. And that's why the more recent Fire Emblems have been really failing to hold up well in such a regard, and why Echoes looks like it could stand up better with its additions to narrative.

Gaiden has by far the worst class balance and maps, two of the most important parts of the gameplay. And then there are the ludicrous equipment bonuses.

Gaiden is a neat game, sure, but people are being WAY too harsh on the newer games and way too forgiving on some of the older games.

Fates might have a garbage story and garbage cast but it's gameplay IS really solid. Even Awakening isn't as bad as long as you don't infinite grind.

Conquest is good, and has pretty great gameplay and one of my personal favorite top end difficulty modes in the series, but it's not the best in the series even in gameplay. There are a lot of hits and misses in the chapter gimmicks, and I would say the continued imbalance of guard stance and total inability to allow units to die disqualifies it from being the best in gameplay.

There was also the extreme FE4 people whose only conversations involved whether or not Levin!Arthur was better than Levin!Sety. There were the speedrunners and LTC people as well and the LTC people were some of the only ones around that actually liked Shadow Dragon. The chinks were the only people who liked Gaiden. FE3 was also kind of forgotten before Heroes of Light and Shadow since it's was far enough back that people who were working backwards from FE6 didn't play it.

I don't even know what else is that far and away ahead of it. Thracia probably, but most of the other games have problems as well. Geneology has a great story but its balance and map design is completely out of whack. Tellius games are good but have misses in balance too. You'll want Grey as your Merc since it's the only way to fix his speed and all of his other stats complement Dread Fighter well. I played it back in 2002 with just a menu patch tabbing out to read an online script during dialog scenes. It's a fucking shame that the game STILL doesn't have a complete menu or good translation patch. Echoes had a complete menu patch like a day after it leaked, but Thracia hasn't gotten one in over 15 years.

Fuck that it is. It's stunted and boring and people don't even speak naturally to each other in a lot of places. It's filled with memes and mistakes and glitches. The FE5 translation patch is a fucking travesty that ruins the experience, in my opinion.

If Hoshido had as much good tanks like in Nohr (Xander, Camilla, Beruka, Effie, Benny, Keaton) later game wouldn't be as bad.

On a side note I actually got a Kagero that fared better than Saizo in everything but magic and skill, a Hinoka that had the best defence and overall stats, and a Takumi who was one of the only decent tanks despite being a sniper. My recent Lunatic BR playthrough was quite weird.

Sakura has a few options. If you want to use her as a caster just promote straight to Onmyoji and keep her there. If you want her to be a pure support promote her to Onmyoji and level her to 5 to get Rally Magic and reclass her to Falcon Knight for flying heals with Rally Magic/Speed/Luck.

Sakura has Onmyoji for glass cannon, or Priestess for being able to take a hit plus bows. And she has enough strength to use a bow decently too. She can be a Falcon Knight too but she would be pure support rally/ healing.

I've found myself using Finn for everything because I can't help but like him a lot for some reason. He just seems like a relatively normal kid with a cool mentor/whatever Quan is supposed to be who takes him to battles and gives him cool shit like stats and a Hero Lance.
