I think Kairi is only one dent in the entire list of flaws in the Kingdom Hearts lore.

Kairi's main issue is that it's harder to sympathize with her or root for her. Like, you never really go "I hope she can obtain happiness in the end", because really, she's plenty happy already. She has everything she could ever want or need. She's perfectly content.

Namine and Xion, however, have tragic circumstances and are constantly faced with nigh insurmountable roadblocks. So it's easy to sympathize with them, it's easy to want to see them succeed and become happy.

I think there are three main keys to a successful fictional character. 1) Charisma/force of character, 2) the power to generate legitimate sympathy, or 3) the conflicts that they are forced to endear. As long as a character has one or the other, they will naturally attract fans. Charisma is self-explanatory; in fictional works, many of the most popular characters are the ones with larger-than-life personalities, those who immediately draw everyone's attention from the moment they appear. Sympathy, obviously, is the power to garner sympathy and make the audience feel strong emotions for that character. For instance, a character with tragic circumstances, assuming it's written reasonably well, will make the audience want that person to become happy. Finally, there's the central conflict. In this case, you don't need to be especially larger-than-life or have some extremely tragic circumstance to become popular; you just need a powerful conflict to face. Luke Skywalker honestly isn't a very interesting character and is easily overshadowed by the rest of the cast, but because he's the central figure in the main conflict as well as the son of a primary antagonist, his story is a naturally compelling one.

Kairi has very little of all three.

Finished 2.5 and considering picking up 2.8. Honestly guys, just how bad is DDD's story?
I know a number of story beats like Lea coming back with a keyblade, something stupid with Young Xehanort and time travel, and Seeker of Darkness and Xemnas coming back. Does it get much worse than that? The story isn't the main reason I play them but it's always been interesting in its own convoluted way at least.

Also, are there horrible minigames like in BBS? Those shits are the reason it was the only journal I didn't finish.

Sephiroth leaves himself super open when he uses Heartless Angel. Just superglide at him and smack him around. If you're playing 1.5+2.5, the FPS jump messed with some of his attacks and it's mostly better to block than to dodge a lot of his stuff. And Xemnas's command attack is crap but keep at it. The safe way to do this is attack him exactly three hits after Gravity hits him, then Dodge Roll and repeat Gravity. Also, cast the spell on him at the right time, as Xemnas might have a chance of shaking the spell off during an attack, even though Tech Points are gained, there is a chance he will retaliate hard.
That's how I beat him on Proud.

The command lock thing has Shock and Release replacing your four option. If you press Shock, you'll take alot of damage. Move the cursor to the 2nd position (so you can cover 3 slots with only 2 button presses) to prepare to press Release, which releases you, as soon as it appears. Takes a bit of luck.

Considering that Unknown is the only one that's explicitly canon (aside from maybe Sephiroth), I think it's reasonable for it to be the most memorable one. They added new Ansem Reports to build up to it and everything.

Lingering Sentiment was a great fight, but why the fuck did a portal just appear in Disney Castle to take you to the graveyard? Why does Young Master Xehanort randomly attack Terra/Ven/Aqua? It just gives the feeling that these boss fights are non-canonical, and only there as the vaguest of teasers for the next game. Either way, I don't think they'll ever top Unknown now that everyone knows how off-the-rails the story is and nobody really cares enough to speculate on new plot hints.
