1. Get a team that's skilled at level design. One of the main reasons why classic Sonic games were so great was because the level design was spectacular. It's also the reason why the latest games have all sucked since the level design is fucking awful. Make the levels 2D sidescrolling rather than 3D levels. 3D does not fucking work well with Sonic.

2. Don't try to make a complex fucking story. It's Sonic. All Sonic should be about is going fast and destroying robots.

3. Get rid of Shadow. He's a fucking awful character.

4. Purge the fanbase of furries.

But it's true. Classic Sonic was when the franchise was at its best. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 weren't as good as you remember. The levels where you played as Sonic and Shadow were good, but the ones where you played as Amy, Tails, Eggman, Knuckles, and Rouge were all boring as fuck. Plus the boss fights were fucking lame. Take off your nostalgia goggles.
