Yep a massive area was cut from the game. The area briefly appears in a cutscene near the end of the game but is otherwise not explorable without mods. Looks as though it would've bridged the gap between Makna and Eryth. One can assume it was removed either due to time constraints or due to the devs not knowing what to do with the area as part of the plot.

Because the plot is actually pretty decent, with some good twists that someone going in blind wouldn't expect. The game is held in high regard by a whole bunch of people for various reasons so that might explain it.

Can someone explain why this game is so revered in online gaming circles? I'm a huge JRPG fan but found this game totally lacking in so many areas. Gameplay is interesting at first but becomes unbearable with how repetitive it is the longer you keep playing. Music is fantastic and the concepts being used are all extremely interesting, but the story they're in is just not great. Sloppy, inconsistent writing and the characters didn't interest me whatsoever. Some of the concepts I've mentioned earlier could've been put to such great use but instead were just shoved into the game clumsily. The areas are also a huge pain to go through - it's the same shit every time. Either a large open expanse with nothing in it or a narrow poorly designed set of corridors and tunnels. They even throw in super high levels monsters to make getting to certain areas needlessly difficult. I really wanna like it, guys. I think I even DID like it, somewhat, but there were way too things dragging it down in my eyes for me to really appreciate it.
