The characters in 3 just feel so much more alive, as if they could actually be people in real life. Later games had too much mc dicksucking and lacked character arcs independent of the mc and I hope that's something they fix in p6

I completely disagree. The only character in P3 who would easily come on top for me is Junpei, some others might come close to the top, but many wouldn't. The P3 cast was filled with forgettable characters and just because their characters developed, not many of them developing well, I should add, doesn't make them the best, or even good.

I believe it was posted in a different thread, but basically, Yosuke starts as a whiny kid who hates where he lives. He's the first guy to accept his shadow, but his acceptance that being able to travel to the TV world has been an excuse to feel important gets explored in his social link extensively, what with trying to deal with bratty Junes employees who don't value him at all aside from providing an in with the boss, and culminating in his confession to Yu.

Even considering that you don't do his social link, he's the one who instigates the idea of potentially offing Namatame after Nanako's supposed death, but learns to get over himself once Yu helps suggest otherwise. It shows progress, because Yosuke likely wouldn't have given a damn about possibly backing down had this happened earlier in the game. That's growth of character right there. And that's not even including how self-conscious he is about playing second banana to Yu and what it means to actually accept your Shadow in Arena.

Well put, and a different guy here, but I just can't agree with you at all.
In my P4 playthrough I went through Chie, Yosuke, and Kanji's SL all the way to level 10 and each of them boiled down to what their shadow confrontation was SUPPOSED to be all about. The whole point of encountering one's shadow was supposed to be to accept those repressed or unknown feelings towards oneself, which is fine, but the social links of the main cast offer the exact same shit, which defeats the entire purpose. I honestly can't remember more than 2 SL cutscenes involving Yosuke. I remember when he gets mad at the girls for laughing at his non-girlfriend or whatever and that's it. Even with that last SL scene where they fight, what the fuck was that achieving exactly? I'm guessing it was supposed to be a sort of "let me get my inferiority frustration out so I can move on" thing. Yosuke was the same character he was at the start of the game that he was at the end, a bootlicker.

Not sure if you did Yukiko or Rise's social links, but theirs highlights a somewhat recurring theme i P4, which is that your external position can remain exactly the same, but a change in mentality is what drives a character's change.

Yukiko starts as the heiress to the Amagi Inn, rebels against her parents because she wants the agency to make decisions on her own, but realizes that she respects her family business enough to use her agency to consciously choose to inherit the inn. Didn't change position, just mentality.

Rise's a teen idol loved by millions. She takes an indefinite hiatus to escape the feelings of being someone who she isn't. She realizes that the Risette personality was still, as refined as it was, ultimately produced by her (literally a persona), and she brought a lot of help and hope to people simply through her music. She realizes that Risette is still a part of her, and returns to the idol industry.

Likewise, Yosuke was, as you put it, a bootlicker. Kissing up to his boss, smiling and waving, the works. Internalized aggression towards all of that though, could've very easily become an Adachi when he grew up. But by accepting his position on the team and learning to value his relationship with others, no matter where he happened to live in, his mentality changed to respect the people who might be above him, instead of passive-aggressively hating them. He's still a bootlicker, but now he's a bootlicker who loves the guy wearing the boots.

Never. You are always able to make a lockpick on the night the calling card gets sent, and iirc there's nothing else to do but that and going straight to bed. You probably still won't have enough to get all the chests especially if you don't have a lot of proficiency, but whats in the chests aren't all that great most of the time. There's also always having the teacher make lockpicks for you when you get that social link up.

The first one's tough to get done in a day, but I got all of them after that done in a day, aside from when it makes you leave. You just have to be able to get by on physical skills and only heal when your low on health. It gets easier later in the game with Kawakami and SP Adhesive's.
