Outside of 64 Star Fox never really had a good game. Sad because there's so few good space dog fight games like Star Fox 64. Sad how Nintendo tends to have to do something weird and to justify the weirdness they force the usage of it. Like Kirby and Zero needed to use the touch screen so you never really look at the TV in the right way. Switch seem to be fine without any major gimmicks but we shall see what they do with it.

Sadly most Nintendo games that sell better in the west (Star Fox, Metroid, Punch-Out, ect.) tends to be made by people that don't really care about the series. To Nintendo it's just them throwing people a bone and hope it's enough to calm people down. Zelda seem to be the only odd one out but that might be do to it selling so well that they kind of have to do semi right by it.

A 3 in one game using all 3 of Nintendo's Big Dead IPs
Star Fox, F-Zero, and Metroid.

You'd get a Metroid the size of the original, A Star Fox the size of the original and an F-Zero with 6 race tracks to clear. Except it'd be a campaign and you'd select which character to go through these levels as.

Each character would handle differently in one of the different games, driving differently in the racing, flying differently and having different tools in the rail shooter, and having a different moveset to explore in the Metroid section.

would be nice a star fox game which you play both sides of the story.
Play as SF team or Wolf team. Each have their own story which will overlap each other certain missions so that brings different endings.

Add more missions in the same planet and rise the difficulty depending how good you play in previous one.

Customize your arwing so it can have a different hue, increase ATK, DEF, SPD and change weapon, of course you'll have to collect items (like KH with the gummi ship).

Increase the cast members, that will help expand the universe of star fox, you can recruit them and have different abilities, they either join peacefully or you have to chase them to have them in your team.

You can also send the extra members to different missions, it may collect you rare items, currency or bring information about enemies/bosses you haven't encounter yet but you will also risk on losing them either by dying, leaving or betray you.

we can recycle andross or create an entire new enemy.

no romance, we can keep krystal but can be replaceable

Also add multiplayer online, making a strategy of putting your best team or co-op and fight in an all-range mission (max 16 players?)

still not sure if landmaster, submarine or on foot level should be kept

On-rail shooters are outdated simply because they're too limited, and you can still have linear on-rails-style levels through level design even if they're not technically on-rails.

Like Ace Combat for example, they have at least one canyon run and at least one "fly into enemy installation to blow it up from the inside" level in every game, among others. Those are things that would be considered on-rails levels in Star Fox, but without needing to be specifically on-rails gameplay the way Star Fox differentiates between the two.

The problem with Star Fox is two-fold. First, all fans want is a carbon copy of Star Fox 64. Second, the devs want to move on from Star Fox 64.
