It was good for Nintendo games. It did show how analog stick was needed for 3D gaming. It's just in that weird period where no one had any clue on how 3D will become. Like how the NES D-Pad introduced people on how console controller should be later on. N64 wasn't a great controller but really was needed. Nintendo also are people that always tries to fuck around with their controllers to see what would come out of it. NES introduced the D-Pad to most people, SNES had the shoulder buttons, N64 with the analog stick, GC was them trying be like their N64 with the C-buttons being a stick, Wii was it's own insane thing, and Switch with it trying to be a 2 in 1 controller.
